Job description

While our preference is a Utah-based employee near our Headquarters, we are open to this position being remote for the right individual. Must be US based.

The Software Engineer Staff (Level 4) designs and builds software across Breeze's technology platform, with an emphasis on the shared libraries, services, and tooling that other engineering teams depend on. Work may span guest-facing products, backend services, public interfaces, developer tooling, and airline internal tooling. The primary focus of this role is the operations side of the airline: the systems behind crew, dispatch, maintenance, and day-of-travel. Staff engineers are expected to identify and solve ambiguous problems and help shape technical direction across teams. Strong interpersonal skills are essential; much of the impact of this role comes through collaboration and raising the quality of the work around them. They should have a continuous desire to learn new things, and to bring what they learn back to the team. Technology is constantly evolving, and staff engineers are expected to help the organization evolve with it.

Here’s what you’ll do
  • Design, build, and maintain shared libraries, services, and developer tooling used across engineering teams.
  • Take ambiguous or under-defined problems from investigation through to a working solution.
  • Write and review code across the stack, with an eye toward long-term maintainability.
  • Lead technical design for significant projects by evaluating approaches, documenting decisions, and building consensus on the path forward.
  • Work with other technical leaders to define engineering standards, evaluate and adopt new technology, and set direction that spans the development group.
  • Raise the technical bar through mentorship, code review, and pairing with engineers at all levels.
  • Partner with product, data, and operations teams to turn business needs into technical direction.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation that helps other engineers move faster.
  • Achieve performance measures and adhere to established standards in conjunction with Breeze Aviation Group Values of Safety, Kindness, Integrity, Ingenuity and Excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years relevant job experience.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting production systems that serve real customers at scale.
  • Track record of evaluating technology choices and making design decisions that hold up over time.
  • Must have authorization to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-graduate degree in Computer Science or related field, or professional certifications.
  • 12+ years software development experience.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting production systems that serve real customers at scale.
  • Track record of evaluating technology choices and making design decisions that hold up over time.
  • Distributed systems experience.
  • Experience building and operating services on AWS.
  • Experience building web servers in Ruby, Go, and/or TypeScript (Node.js).
  • Experience building web applications in Angular and/or React.
Skills/Talents
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals and teams at all levels in the organization.
  • Exemplifies Breeze's safety culture, values, and mission.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and operating standard office equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching within an office environment. Clear verbal and written communication, requiring adequate speech, hearing, and vision.

Perks of the Job
  • Health, Vision and Dental – Full Time.
  • Health Savings Account with Breeze Employee Match.
  • 401K with Breeze Employee Match.
  • Generous PTO.
  • Travel on Breeze and other Airlines too!
