Foundation Background

HERS Breast Cancer Foundation is a Bay Area nonprofit organization committed to empowering individuals healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical products and support, regardless of financial status. With program stores located in Fremont and San Leandro, HERS offers a private and compassionate environment where patients receive assessment and fitting services for products such as pocketed bras, breast prostheses, lymphedema compression garments, and wigs.


The Foundation's goal is to restore our patients' sense of "HERS" -- Hope, Empowerment, Renewal, and Support. Our products and services help breast cancer patients heal physically and emotionally during one of the most challenging times of their lives. About this Role

Our Foundation is seeking a part-time Breast Care Specialist (BCS) to work in person at our Fremont location. This role is tasked with providing assessment and personalized fitting services for breast cancer survivors for prescribed products such pocketed bras, breast prostheses, and lymphedema compression garments, while delivering compassionate and professional patient care. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to patient charting and product ordering.


No prior experience as a mastectomy fitter is necessary as hands-on training is provided by a senior Breast Care Specialist. In addition, HERS covers coursework and test fees to obtain necessary to obtain the mastectomy fitter certification ("CFm"). Once certification is achieved, the hourly rate for this position increases from $23/hour to $25/hour.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate empathetic, respectful, and effective support to patients during their care.
  • Experience in a medical/clinic setting with a focus on understanding and supporting breast cancer survivors.
  • Customer service expertise to deliver high-quality patient experiences in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused healthcare environment.
  • Flexibility, organizational skills, and attention to detail regarding patient products and accurate charting.
  • Commitment to the mission of supporting individuals healing from breast cancer.
  • Microsoft 365 Suite proficiency.
