Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Managing Fire Protection Engineer for our Thermal Sciences Practice in Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Warrenville, IL; Menlo Park, CA; Los Angeles, CA; and Natick, MA.

You will be responsible for
  • Performing outstanding technical work for clients to include:
    • National, state, and local fire and building code reviews
    • Analysis of active and passive fire protection systems
    • Laboratory experimental design, construction, and coordination of testing
    • Fire and explosion investigations including hands-on experience in the field
  • Working in teams on complex interdisciplinary problems, often with tight deadlines
  • Managing multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with experts in other technical disciplines
  • Identifying and pursuing business development opportunities
  • Project management and building client relationships
  • Preparing proposals and technical reports, and presenting findings to clients
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • M.S., M.Eng., M.E., or Ph.D. in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States.  No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) strongly preferred
  • Strong technical background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Business development experience with a proven track record, and a demonstrated ability to attract new and/or repeat clients or funding
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment, and strong mentorship skills with technical staff
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong desire and ability to tackle a wide variety of problems within and outside direct area of expertise
  • Prior experience with prescriptive and/or performance-based analysis and application of codes and standards published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Code Council (ICC), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and similar
  • Hands-on experience in fire protection system design, installation, inspection, testing and maintenance preferred

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
