Job description

Job Description: GRIT. HUSTLE. DETERMINATION. LEAD FROM THE FRONT. We are looking for a working field supervisor. Read that again: working supervisor. This is not a position where you assign the work, stand back, and watch the crew execute it. You will work alongside your crew every day. You will pack, move, protect, inventory, photograph, label, load, unload, stage, clean, organize, and perform the physical field work required by the assignment while also leading the team. You are expected to lead the work and do the work. You will set the pace, protect the property, control the jobsite, verify the documentation, coach the crew, solve problems, communicate with the customer, and make sure the assignment gets completed correctly. We want someone with the grit to stay steady when the work gets hard, the hustle to attack the day with urgency, and the determination to finish the job the right way. Hustle here does not mean shortcuts. It means preparation, initiative, productive effort, and urgency while protecting safety, quality, the customer, and the company. WHY THIS ROLE This is hands-on field leadership with nowhere to hide from the result. You translate the Project Manager's work plan into safe, accurate, productive field execution. You are responsible for the crew's pace and quality because you are in the work with them every day. You will not spend the day watching other people work. You will not supervise primarily from the truck. You will not be standing in the doorway with a clipboard while the crew carries the load. You are part of the production team and its leader at the same time. That means you may be packing a room while coaching a technician, carrying contents while monitoring property protection, loading a truck while checking inventory accuracy, or completing documentation while keeping the crew moving toward the day's production target. Some days will test you. A customer may be frustrated. Someone may call out. The job may be larger than expected. A truck may need something that should already be there. The scope may change. The schedule may tighten. That is when leadership matters. We are looking for someone who gets into the work, creates momentum, solves problems, communicates early, and brings the crew with them. If your idea of leadership is "follow me" instead of "go do that," you may belong here. YOU WILL OWN Review scope, site conditions, customer requirements, schedule, staffing, materials, equipment, and safety needs before work begins.Set the plan, establish expectations, and get the crew moving with purpose.Assign work based on training and capability while remaining actively involved in field production throughout the day.Work alongside the crew every day performing the same core field activities you are responsible for supervising.Personally participate in inventory, photography, labeling, packing, wrapping, property protection, staging, loading, unloading, transport preparation, storage transfer, cleaning support, and pack-back as assignments require.Set the production pace through your own example - not just your instructions.Monitor pace, quality, conduct, breaks, timekeeping, attendance, and completion while continuing to contribute to the work.Drive productive urgency. Keep the team moving without allowing speed to become an excuse for unsafe work, damaged property, weak documentation, or poor workmanship.Run safe, organized jobsites; establish staging and travel paths; protect structures; identify hazards; and stop unsafe or substandard work.Verify inventories, photos, barcodes, labels, signatures, notes, time records, damage reports, and chain-of-custody records before work moves forward.Catch problems early and escalate them quickly. Bad news does not improve with age.Coach employees in real time and hold people accountable when expectations are not met.Protect the customer's property as though your reputation depends on it - because it does.Leave the jobsite, truck, documentation, and next shift better prepared than you found them. WHAT "SUPERVISOR" MEANS HERE Supervisor does not mean spectator. Your leadership responsibilities are in addition to, not instead of, performing field work. Every normal field day should include you working shoulder-to-shoulder with the crew while directing the operation. There will be times when you need to stop production briefly to speak with a customer, inspect work, correct documentation, make a call, coach an employee, or address a safety or operational issue. That is part of the supervisory responsibility. But once that issue is handled, you get back into the work. The crew should see their supervisor:Carrying the load.Protecting the property.Packing and moving contents.Helping solve the difficult parts of the job.Maintaining organization.Following the same safety rules.Meeting the same quality standard.Bringing energy when everyone is tired.Staying engaged until the work is done. We lead from the front here. YOU WILL PROBABLY THRIVE HERE IF... You have GRIT. A difficult day does not change your standard. You have HUSTLE. You see what needs to happen, move with urgency, and do not need someone chasing you. You have DETERMINATION. You stay with the problem until there is a solution, an escalation, or a clear next action. You believe the supervisor should be one of the hardest-working people on the jobsite. You would rather demonstrate the standard than repeatedly lecture people about it. You can perform physical field work while simultaneously watching production, safety, quality, documentation, and crew performance. You know how to push the pace without rushing the work. You can hold employees accountable without acting like a tyrant. You give direct feedback and can receive it. You keep working when the assignment becomes inconvenient, dirty, physically demanding, repetitive, or frustrating. You can deal with changing priorities without turning every change into drama. You are comfortable with customers, digital documentation, inventory controls, and early escalation. You are the person who notices the missing label, unsafe lift, late start, incomplete photo set, unprotected doorway, or unstocked truck before it becomes tomorrow's excuse. When something goes wrong, your first question is not: "Whose fault is this?" It is: "What needs to happen now?" MUST-HAVESDemonstrated ability to lead while actively performing hands-on field work.Willingness and ability to work alongside the crew as a normal part of the job - not merely when the team is short-handed.Ability to assign tasks, coach employees, maintain accountability, and personally contribute to daily production.A demonstrated record of dependability, initiative, follow-through, productive urgency, grit, and determination in demanding work environments.Working knowledge of contents inventory, packing, moving, transport, storage, cleaning support, and property protection, or strong transferable experience you can demonstrate.Valid driver license and ability to satisfy company motor-vehicle and insurance requirements.Ability to use mobile devices, inventory/project software, barcode/photo systems, timekeeping, email/text, and job documentation tools.Ability to communicate clearly with employees, customers, project leadership, and other stakeholders.Ability to perform the physical, schedule, and travel requirements of active restoration field leadership, with reasonable accommodation as required by law. NICE-TO-HAVESPrior contents restoration, moving, mitigation, construction, logistics, warehouse, military logistics, or crew-lead experience.IICRC or other relevant restoration, safety, or supervisory training.Experience working with homeowners, adjusters, contractors, and insurance-related documentation.Experience building accountability and production discipline within a hands-on field crew.Experience operating in environments where schedules change, customers are under stress, and leaders are expected to solve problems in real time. DO NOT APPLY IF...You want to point from the truck while everyone else does the hard part. You believe becoming a supervisor means you no longer have to perform production work. You are looking for a clipboard-only management position. You are willing to "jump in and help" occasionally but do not want to work alongside the crew every day.You ask employees to do physical work you routinely avoid yourself. You need someone constantly reminding you what needs to happen next.Your sense of urgency disappears when the work becomes inconvenient. You avoid direct feedback, let attendance or quality slide, or wait for management to discover problems later. You routinely explain why something could not be done instead of helping determine what can be done next. You confuse leadership with volume, ego, intimidation, or barking orders. You think hustle means rushing, taking shortcuts, skipping documentation, or ignoring safety. You are loose with documentation, customer commitments, scope, company property, or company authority. You walk past problems because they technically belong to someone else. You want responsibility only when everything is going according to plan. SCHEDULE / TRAVEL / CONDITIONS Normally Monday through Friday, with start and end times that vary by assignment. Evening, weekend, overnight, overtime, emergency-response, and limited on-call work may be required. Work is generally within about a three-hour driving radius of Chesapeake, Virginia, but assignments can extend beyond that area and overnight travel may be required. This is active, physical field leadership in residences, businesses, warehouses, vehicles, loading areas, and restoration sites that may involve water, fire, smoke, soot, mold, odors, dust, debris, cleaning chemicals, temperature extremes, distressed customers, PPE, ladders, lifting, driving, and changing priorities. The physical field work is not separate from the supervisory position. It is a core part of the supervisory position. Some assignments will be straightforward. Most will demand grit, hustle, flexibility, composure, and determination. That is the job. OUR STANDARD Our values are not wall decorations. Dependable. Serve. Trustworthy. United. Systems Set Us Free. Stay Hungry. Profit Protects the Mission. Bring the Energy. Truth Travels Fast. Kill the Snake. We do not need people who can recite the words. We need people whose work already looks like them. GRIT - Stay steady when the work gets hard. Own the responsibility. Do not fold when conditions become uncomfortable. HUSTLE - Move with purpose. Prepare early. Attack the work. Help the team. Solve the next problem before somebody has to ask. DETERMINATION - Finish what you start. Follow through. Find the answer. Escalate when necessary. Keep the mission moving. LEAD FROM THE FRONT - Never ask the crew to carry a standard you are unwilling to carry yourself. Through all four: protect safety, protect quality, protect the customer, protect the team, and protect the company.
