The Heart of St. Honoré

St. Honoré Bakery is a slice of French heritage nestled in the heart of Portland, where the smell of toasted flour and wild yeast is our daily greeting. Pay amp; Benefits

  • Pay: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour.
  • Schedule: Full-time, static schedule (typically 1:00 AM – 9:30 AM, 4:00 AM, or 11:00 AM).
  • Health amp; Wellness: Comprehensive Health Insurance.
  • Time Off: Paid Time Off (PTO) provided in line with Oregon’s sick pay mandate.
  • Future Planning: Access to the OregonSaves retirement program.

The Heart of our Neighborhood

We are looking for a dedicated baker to join our team and help us maintain the high standards and french quality that our regulars have come to love.

Why You’ll Love it Here

If you’re the kind of person who has a named sourdough starter bubbling on your kitchen counter at home, you’ve found your people. You will work in an environment that prizes technical precision and French tradition, but swaps "militant" kitchen vibes for a warm, collaborative atmosphere where "geeking out" over dough development is encouraged.

The Daily Craft

  • Feed the Soul: Scale and prepare ingredients according to time-honored French artisan recipes.
  • The Human Touch: Shape every loaf by hand with high attention to detail—consistency is our love language.
  • Master the Heat: Calibrate and manage deck ovens to ensure the perfect bake, color, and "grigne."
  • The Science of Bubbles: Monitor fermentation and/or proofing stages to ensure optimal flavor development.
  • Artistic Scoring: Use traditional techniques to score breads, giving each loaf its unique St. HonorĂ© signature.
  • Pristine Workspace: Maintain a clean, organized station and handle professional equipment with respect.
  • Team Synergy: Work side-by-side with fellow bakers to hit daily production targets while sharing the craft.

What You Bring

  • The Baker’s Intuition: You have a background in mixing and shaping; professional experience is wonderful, but a serious home-baking obsession is highly valued.
  • Early Bird Energy: You thrive in the quiet magic of the early morning (starts at 1:00 AM, 4:00 AM, or 11:00 AM) and don’t mind a schedule that includes weekends.
  • Physical Stamina: You are comfortable standing for a full shift and can reliably lift 50 lbs (those flour bags are no joke!).
  • Local Compliance: You have (or can obtain) a valid Oregon Food Handler Card by the first day of work and have reliable transportation for those early starts (Trimet line 35).

Our Interview Process

We want to get to know the person behind the flour! First, check out our employment FAQs: https://www.sainthonorebakery.com/faqs/

THEN Qualified individuals will be invited to a 20–30 minute introductory video interview to talk shop and culture. The top candidates will be invited to the bakery for an in-person interview to see the space and meet the team.

We look forward to hearing from you!
