What is brand strategy?

Brand strategy is a long-term plan focused on the development and positioning of a brand to achieve specific business goals. It involves defining what the brand stands for, its core values, target audience, unique selling propositions, and overall messaging. A strong brand strategy helps differentiate a company from competitors, builds customer loyalty, and drives consistent marketing efforts. Effective brand strategies guide decisions across marketing, design, communications, and business development.

How does a brand strategist typically collaborate with other departments to execute a brand vision?

Brand Strategists work closely with marketing, creative, product, and sales teams to ensure the brand message is consistently communicated across all channels. They often facilitate workshops, lead brainstorming sessions, and coordinate campaign rollouts, acting as the bridge between creative ideas and business objectives. Regular collaboration ensures everyone is aligned on brand guidelines, voice, and positioning, which is essential for cohesive brand experiences. This cross-functional teamwork also exposes Brand Strategists to diverse perspectives and can open up opportunities for leadership and professional growth within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a brand strategist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Brand Strategist, you need expertise in market research, brand positioning, and a solid understanding of consumer behavior, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, and brand management platforms is commonly expected. Strong creative thinking, communication, and collaboration skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are critical for building compelling brand identities, driving marketing success, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Social Platforms, you will lead the development and activation of Fidelity's brand strategy, defining how the firm creates confidence for customers and clients in an increasingly complex and uncertain world. You will shape and scale an enterprise-wide brand system that connects brand to behavior across every interaction.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years in marketing/cx experience
  • Extensive brand leadership experience, with a track record of building and scaling differentiated brand strategies that influence both perception and behavior.
  • A deep understanding of how brand connects to customer experience, product, and organizational behavior, with the ability to operationalize strategy across complex environments.
  • Strength in developing brand frameworks and governance models that scale, ensuring consistency across execution while enabling flexibility where needed. You have experience embedding brand into customer journeys and evolving brand expression across design, voice, and narrative with discipline.
  • An analytical mindset, using customer insight and behavioral understanding to guide decisions and connect brand efforts to measurable outcomes. You are an effective communicator who builds alignment and influences senior leadership across a complex organization.

The Value You Deliver

  • A clear, differentiated brand strategy that positions Fidelity as a source of confidence and guidance.

  • Aligned execution across channels and touchpoints, ensuring the brand is delivered cohesively across how it looks, sounds, thinks, and performs.
  • Stronger customer and client engagement through improved clarity, reduced friction, and increased ability to act with confidence.
  • A modern approach to brand measurement that connects brand performance to decision enablement, engagement depth, and business impact.
  • Elevated organizational capability through coaching, clear standards, and disciplined application of brand across teams.
  • A brand that operates as both a competitive advantage and a growth accelerator, strengthening retention, advocacy, and long-term value.
