Description
At the MidPointe Library System, our mission is to enrich our community through access and experiences. We do that by connecting a curious community to our library services and strive to provide a positive learning experience.
At our West Chester Library, our shelvers provide excellent customer service to our patrons by accurately and efficiently shelving library materials onto the shelves; shift items; answer customers directional questions; and using lists, pull books from the shelves for holds & discards. You'll also empty and sort book drop materials and use the conveyor belt machinery to check in items evaluating the condition of the returned items and place them on the appropriate cart for shelving. As a member of the public services team, you'll work independently, with co-workers, and assist with branch activities.
Requirements
To be successful you:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have customer service experience.
  • Must have prior experience with computers and printers.
  • Must be able to use conveyor belt machinery.
  • Must be able to file by the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetically (training provided).
  • Must have attention to detail, be accurate, organized, able to prioritize, multi-task, and have good time management skills.
  • Must be friendly, approachable, and provide a positive experience to patrons.
  • Must have excellent customer service, a strong service ethic, adapt rapidly to change, and thrive in a diverse family friendly environment.
  • Need to be able to independently (and with others), quickly, and favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations, and be able to prioritize.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers for position requirements.
  • Must be able to learn and carry out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Must be able to effectively read (including cursive), write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must have the ability to move crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds when full, move book carts that could weigh up to 200+ pounds when they are full.
  • Must be able to shelve and access the top shelves down to the bottom shelves & carts, and reach into bins to file & retrieve items.
  • Must be able to work in areas that contain disinfectant odors, dust, and allergens.
  • Regular, punctual and predictable physical attendance and punctuality is required.
