Brake Engineer information
What are some typical challenges Brake Engineers face when collaborating with cross-functional teams during vehicle development?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Brake Engineer, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Brake Engineer vs Brake Technician?
| Aspect | Brake Engineer | Brake Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering | High school diploma or technical certification |
| Work Environment | Design labs, R&D facilities, manufacturing plants | Repair shops, maintenance facilities, on-site vehicle service |
| Industry Usage | Automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery manufacturing | Automotive repair, service centers, fleet maintenance |
Brake Engineers focus on designing and developing braking systems, requiring engineering degrees and working in labs or design environments. Brake Technicians perform maintenance and repairs, working directly on vehicles in repair shops. Both roles are essential in the automotive industry but differ in education, responsibilities, and work settings.

Job description
But Scout is more than just a brand, it's a legacy steeped in a culture of exploration, caretaking, and hard work.
The Scout brand is all about respect. Respect for the past and the future by taking an iconic American brand that hasn't been around for a while, electrifying it, digitizing it, and loading it with American innovation. Respect for communities by creating a company that stands for its people and its customers. Respect for both work and play, with vehicles that are equally at home at a camp site, a job site, or on a Tuesday commute. And respect for our customers by developing two powertrains that meet their requirements - an all-electric powertrain as well as the Harvesterโข range extender powertrain which includes a built-in gas-powered generator with an estimated 500 miles of combined range.
At Scout Motors, we empower our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams to innovate. What makes a Scout employee? Someone who is a visionary and a leader, who seeks new paths and shares lessons learned. A knowledgeable doer who collaborates across the company to build better. A go-getter with unrivaled passion.
Join us at Scout Motors and be part of shaping the future of transportation. If you're ready to drive change and make history, apply now!
What you'll do
At Scout Motors, you don't just design vehicles- you shape the future of the road. Our Engineering team is where bold ideas meet rigorous execution, building machines that are as durable and capable as the people who drive them. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with brilliant minds across disciplines, turning complex challenges into elegant, scalable solutions that meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and user experience. This is a place where your fingerprints are found on metal - where what you design gets built, driven, and remembered. If you're hungry to engineer something that matters, Scout Motors is where that ambition finds its highest gear.
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- Development: Engineer brake system components and subsystems, including brake calipers, rotors, hoses, lines, and actuation systems. Support the development, NVH, and validation of these components to meet performance, durability, and safety targets.
- Validation and Testing: Lead and support validation activities at both supplier and OEM levels, including component, subsystem, and vehicle testing. Define and execute DVP&R plans, ensuring alignment with program requirements and performance targets.
- Supplier Coordination: Interface with suppliers to define test requirements, review validation plans, and ensure components meet structural, performance, and durability requirements. Support supplier test execution and review data for compliance.
- Test Planning and Execution: Develop detailed test plans and procedures for brake components and systems, including bench, dynamometer, environmental, and vehicle-level testing. Coordinate testing activities and ensure timely completion of validation milestones.
- Data Analysis and Issue Resolution: Analyze test data to evaluate performance, identify root causes of issues, and drive corrective actions. Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical concerns and improve product robustness.
- Technical Excellence: Uphold engineering excellence by ensuring robust validation methodologies and high-quality test execution. Contribute to continuous improvement of brake system performance and durability.
- Engineering Improvements: Critically review test results, validation strategies, and system performance, proposing improvements to designs, specifications, and validation approaches.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including vehicle dynamics, controls, manufacturing, quality, and supplier development, to ensure robust brake system performance.
- Solution Development: Partner with system architecture and design teams to resolve performance, durability, and integration challenges through data-driven solutions.
- Prototype and Serial Development: Support prototype builds and serial production readiness, including test execution, issue tracking, and validation sign-off.
- Additional Tasks: Participate in other related tasks and activities as required.
Location & Travel Expectations:
