Role Overview
We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to drive product development of the Echo wearable hardware device. The candidate will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and evaluating custom Echo hardware devices. The candidate will drive manufacturing vendors, and own design verification activities for medical device product development.
Primary Role and Responsibilities
  • Design and prototype mechanical components and assemblies including rapid prototyping, machining, injection molding
  • Develop component and assembly drawings including tolerance stack-ups and analyses
  • Identify and manage manufacturing vendors of components and assemblies
  • Perform simulations and analysis (FEA, thermal, etc) with vendors to drive design decisions
  • Develop custom electromechanical systems for characterization and testing of assemblies and components
  • Develop and execute design verification activities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of post-academic, industry experience in product development of electro-mechanical hardware devices
  • Experience with, and inclination toward hands-on rapid prototyping
  • Experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, cables
  • Experience selecting and working with component and contract manufacturers
  • Experience with dimensioning and tolerance analyses
  • Minimum 7 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as Solidworks including concept development, detailed design, and corresponding assembly drawings
  • Experience with analysis tools for thermal, and structure analyses (eg: FEA, ANSYS, etc)
  • Experience developing and implementing custom electro-mechanical test systems (eg: mechanical fatigue testing, reliability testing, tensile testing, etc)
  • Experience working within a quality system

Other Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of medical device development processes, including design controls, risk management, and regulatory compliance for medical devices
  • Strong collaboration mindset
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Occasional travel to vendors (<10%)
