As Tax Director - State and Local Tax you'll join our growing State & Local Tax (SALT) practice. This role is ideal for a tax professional who thrives in a client-facing environment, enjoys solving complex tax issues, and is passionate about delivering exceptional service and value to clients. As a key member of the SALT team, you will lead engagements, mentor staff, and provide technical guidance on multi-state tax matters across a diverse client base

Responsibilities
  • Manage and deliver income tax and indirect tax consulting and compliance engagements for a variety of clients and industries
  • Conduct nexus studies, taxability analyses, and exposure reviews
  • Advise clients on multi-state income tax and indirect tax issues, including audit defense and voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs)
  • Research and interpret state tax laws, regulations, and rulings
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation
  • Lead and mentor staff and seniors, providing coaching, feedback, and technical development
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor
  • Collaborate with other tax and advisory service lines on cross-functional opportunities
  • Support business development activities, including proposals and networking efforts

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's or MBA preferred)
  • CPA, JD, or MST preferred
  • 9+ years of experience in public accounting or industry, with a focus on state and local tax issues.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state tax regulations and compliance
  • Proven experience managing engagements and supervising staff
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills

$160,000 - $180,000 a year
The salary range provided is intended for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area who meet the minimum requirements of the position. Candidates who do not reside in the San Francisco Bay Area, do not meet the minimum requirements, or exceed the requirements are encouraged to apply and a recruiter will provide you with a range specific to your location and qualifications.
