Dickerson & Bowen - Paving the way for growth and development since 1947
D&B is a leading provider of aggregates, asphalt and asphalt paving services in central and southern Mississippi. D&B operates four asphalt plants and two active sand and gravel plants and is a natural extension to our recently established Southeast platform, further strengthening our vertically integrated footprint.
General Summary
The Construction Laborer supports asphalt paving and related construction activities across Dickerson & Bowen project sites. This role performs a wide range of essential tasks, including site preparation, grading, paving support, and assisting with the installation or repair of various structures. Responsibilities also include traffic control/flagging, shoveling, maintaining clean and safe work areas, and setting up or completing stringline layouts. Laborers work closely with equipment operators and crew members to ensure efficient, high-quality project execution in all field conditions.
Essential Job Accountabilities
  • Digs, spreads, and levels dirt and gravel, using pick and shovel.
  • Lifts, carries, and holds materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
  • Mixes, pours, and spreads concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials, using handtools.
  • Joins, wraps, and seals sections of pipe.
  • Performs a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete, filling expansion joints with asphalt, and placing culvert sections in trench.

Education
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Work Experience
  • On the job training required.

Requirements and Certifications
  • Valid Driver's License
  • (Preferred) Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B with Tanker endorsement)

Workers should be able to:

  • Perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy
  • Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
  • Evaluate information using measurable standards.

Physically, workers must be able to:
  • Stand or walk for long periods
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and see (naturally or with correction).
