Job description

PEAK Genetics has an opportunity available to join our barn staff as an Animal Care Technician, Bulls (internally known as a Livestock Specialist) in our Calf Care facility in Shawano, WI! In this role, you will be a member of a highly skilled team supporting the daily care, health, and collection of our elite bulls. This team is also responsible for the maintenance of the facilities and equipment. As a Livestock Specialist for PEAK Genetics, you will be surrounded by people who are passionate about the agriculture industry, bovine genetics, and client satisfaction. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY  

  • Handle sires of varying ages and sizes in a calm, confident manner for optimum production  
  • Work in a system using established protocols 
  • Perform regular livestock care including feeding, cleaning, moving cattle, assisting with health testing and veterinary treatments, and other routine tasks  
  • Operate company farm equipment and vehicles  
  • Clean and maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment  

QUALIFICATIONS  

Required 

  • Comfortable working with large animals  
  • Must have a valid driver's license 
  • Ability to perform occasional planned weekend duties 
  • Capability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds 
  • Capacity to work on feet and stand for long periods of time 
  • Willingness to learn and follow company protocols  

Desired 

  • Previous livestock handling experience 
  • Experience detecting health and disease symptoms in cattle 
  • Ability to perform basic equipment and building maintenance repairs 
  • Post-secondary education in agriculture or related field 

Ideal 

  • Basic computer skills working with Microsoft Office
