Job description

WHY SAFETY?

At Roblox, we strive to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and the Safety organization's mission is to become the leader in civil immersive online communities. We systematically detect, remove, and prevent problematic accounts, content and behavior, and we make Roblox accounts secure and free from compromise. We cover a broad area of the tech spectrum, including machine learning, classifiers for 3D models, experimentation, automation, detection workflows, and AI-powered text filters. Aligned and partnering with product teams, we use this toolbelt to discover new opportunities, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build safety products, and measure the impact on our community of users and developers. In doing so, we keep Roblox safe, civil, and inclusive, and we foster positive relationships between people around the world.

WHY BOT DEFENSE?

Roblox is a prime target for automated scripts that cause harm to our users, and creators. Join our Bots and Spam team, where you will tackle the critical challenge of safeguarding the platform against sophisticated bot threats.

While our current team Backend and ML engineers have made tremendous progress in improving our detection quality and mitigation efficacy, we have reached a critical inflection point. To move from reactive firefighting to a hardened, self-serve platform, we need the missing piece of our puzzle: you.

We are seeking a founding Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Frontend focus) on the bot defense team, to strengthen our in-house Bot Defense solutions at Roblox. As a full-stack engineer on our team, you will bridge the gap between our advanced ML and backend solutions by building intuitive, scalable, and high-performance front-end user interactions to bring these defenses to life. You will have a direct impact on platform health, ensuring fairness for creators and players by staying ahead of evolving threats in a high-stakes, data-driven environment.  If you are passionate about solving complex, high-impact problems in an adversarial landscape, this is the team for you.

This isn't just a traditional coding role; it is a platform-building role. If you want to solve complex, high-stakes problems with a team that has already proven its ability to deliver major technical milestones, we want to talk to you.

You will:

  • The "Founding" Experience: You will have total autonomy to shape our frontend practices. As the first dedicated full-stack hire on the team, you will have the opportunity to drive and establish next-generation technical and quality standards for the team's frontend stack.
  • Visible Results: Develop high-quality, user-centric, and low-friction front-end solutions, applying an adversarial and data-driven lens to proactively address security vulnerabilities.
  • Bridge the gap: Translate complex backend detection intelligence into intuitive, high-value interfaces.
  • Build the ecosystem: Build a centralized platform to provide intuitive UX for the bot defense pod and access control options to various product teams within Roblox and to the wider creator community.
  • Solve the toughest problems: Design, build, and deploy 0-1 secure, efficient, and reliable bot defense products, focusing on the user experience for bot detection and mitigation

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience as a Fullstack Software Engineer.
  • 2+ years of experience in front-end development of hands-on experience with UI scripting languages and modern frameworks, such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Lua, and React.
  • 2+ years of experience in compiled backend languages such as Golang, Java, or C#.
  • Equivalent experience or a BS in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or another technical field.
  • A strong focus on writing clear, readable, testable, and highly monitored code.
  • A customer-first mindset demonstrated through exceptional cross-team collaboration and delivery.
