The Akamai Security Suite Analyst is responsible for managing, monitoring, and optimizing Akamai's security solutions to protect web applications, APIs, and digital infrastructure from cyber threats. This role involves utilizing tools such as Akamai Kona Site Defender, Web Application Firewall (WAF), Bot Manager, and DDoS mitigation services. The analyst will also monitor and suggest implementations strategies to detect and mitigate unauthorized screen scraping, data harvesting, and aggregator-driven traffic. The role collaborates with IT, security, and development teams to ensure robust protection, high performance, and seamless user experiences across enterprise digital assets.
Key Responsibilities
Detect, monitor and mitigate automated scraping, content harvesting, and aggregator abuse using bot classification, behavioral analysis, and rate limiting controls.
Respond promptly to incidents such as DDoS attacks, bot-driven abuse, credential stuffing, and unauthorized screen scraping activities.
Suggest implementations strategies for the security policies (WAF, Bot Manager) to balance protection with performance, minimizing false positives while ensuring legitimate user and approved partner aggregator traffic flows smoothly.
Analyze traffic patterns, bot signatures, and threat intelligence to proactively update configurations and block emerging scraping and automation techniques.
Define and enforce controls for approved aggregators (e.g., allowlisting, API-first strategies, traffic segmentation) while blocking unauthorized data extraction.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolve issues related to security configurations, content delivery, or application performance impacted by Akamai settings.
Maintain documentation of security policies, scraping/automation mitigation strategies, incident reports, and configuration changes for compliance and auditing.
Stay current on cybersecurity trends, bot evasion techniques, scraping frameworks, and Akamai product updates to recommend enhancements.
Liaise with Akamai support and account teams to resolve complex issues or escalate critical incidents.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in network security, cloud security, or web/application security administration.
Hands-on experience with Akamai security tools (e.g., Kona Site Defender, WAF, Bot Manager) or similar CDN/security platforms preferred.
Experience identifying and mitigating bot traffic, screen scraping, and aggregator abuse.
Strong understanding of web protocols, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and respond to security incidents under pressure.
Technical Skills
Akamai Security Suite Expertise: Proficiency in Kona Site Defender, WAF, Bot Manager, and DDoS mitigation.
Bot & Automation Defense: Experience detecting and mitigating bots, screen scraping tools, and aggregator traffic using behavioral analysis, fingerprinting, and rate controls.
Web Security Knowledge: Strong understanding of OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities (e.g., SQL injection, XSS), HTTP/HTTPS, and SSL/TLS.
