Job Purpose: The Registered Nurse supports and collaborates with the medical provider team and medical support staff to ensure that all patients receive quality care while maintaining compliance with all federal grants, HIPAA, and HealthCore Clinic policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Takes patient phone calls, answers patient questions, and requests, provides information to patients, and returns patient messages.
  • Reviews prior authorization requests for medication to ensure all necessary information is provided; processes prior authorizations and accurately enters data into the database.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Collects patients from the lobby waiting area and escorts them to the correct examination room and prepares them to be seen by a Provider.
  • Prepares and administers treatment such as vaccines and immunizations as ordered by HCC Providers.
  • Supervises all vaccines and immunizations given by a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Oversees and reviews patient medication refill requests.
  • Documents all patient encounters, phone calls and treatments in the patients Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Distributes Tap Tams books to pediatric patients as needed; records the number of Tap Tams books distributed to patients monthly.
  • Assures quality of care for all HealthCore patients by developing and interpreting all the nursing department philosophies and standards of care.
  • Provides self-management support to patients by providing self-management tools and encouraging patients to self-manage and promote healthy behavior changes.
  • Complies with all applicable federal, state, local and clinic rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures.
  • Calls patients on lab results and answers any questions.
  • Communicates effectively with all patients either in person or over the phone and displays excellent customer service to all patients, clients, and visitors.
  • Maintains nursing staff by aiding HR in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training processes for nurses and other nursing departmental staff.
  • Assists with overseeing the Certified Nurse Aides, Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Medical Intake staff, and Lab staff by providing guidance and resolving issues, administering performance management, evaluations, discipline, support, and coordination of schedules for staff, and approving timecards.
  • Communicates regularly with all staff members and participates in regular meetings to coordinate schedules and ensure readiness of the medical staff for all activities.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Attends and participates as a team member on at least one HCC quality team initiative such as quality improvement, safety, and/or employee recognition teams.
  • Participates in appropriate health promotion/disease prevention activities both on-site and off-site as required.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Consistently checks temperatures on the vaccine fridges and freezers to ensure they are compliant with required temperature levels and logs levels.
  • Pulls International Health Assessments (IHA) records from the Electronic Disease Notification (EDN) system.
  • Prepares billing for any cervical pap smears and mammograms performed and enters the correct clinical system to ensure these services are billed.
  • Updates Vaccines for Children (VFC) provider lists.
  • Performs regular maintenance on the Autoclave machine.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
  • Maintains all departmental equipment and supplies, including nursing equipment/supplies and vaccine inventory; places supply and vaccine orders when needed.
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Valid and current Registered Nurse license from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year of nursing experience in a hospital/medical/nursing facility.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and natural sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and microbiology.
  • Thorough understanding of general nursing principles and practices.
  • Proficient knowledge of Electronic Health Records software and relevant applications.
