The Position

We are seeking an experienced P&C Wholesale Broker Team Leader to lead a team of wholesale brokers placing coverage across surplus lines and admitted markets. The ideal candidate is a player-coach who maintains their own active book of business while guiding and developing the broader team. This role requires deep P&C technical expertise, strong agent relationships, and a proven track record of both personal production and people leadership. Based in our Pleasanton, CA office. Key responsibilities include:


  • Personal Production: Maintain and grow your own active book of business, serving as a senior producer and demonstrating best practices in agent relationship management and risk placement.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of wholesale brokers, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Book Management: Oversee new business, renewals, and endorsements across the team’s book, ensuring quality risk selection and profitability consistent with carrier guidelines.
  • Agent & Carrier Relationships: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with retail agents, brokers, and carrier partners, serving as a senior point of contact to grow submissions and deepen market access.
  • Underwriting Oversight: Apply and enforce sound underwriting judgment across pricing, forms, applications, and deductibles; escalate complex risks to VP of Underwriting as appropriate.
  • Service & Execution: Drive the team’s execution of quoting and binding within established Service Level Commitments, maintaining high standards of responsiveness and accuracy.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay current on industry trends, E&S market conditions, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities and inform management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years in retail, wholesale, or carrier environments with meaningful wholesale brokerage and binding authority experience.
  • Personal Book of Business: Established book of P&C wholesale business with demonstrated ability to retain and grow client relationships.
  • P&C Technical Knowledge: Strong command of GL, Commercial Property, and specialty lines with sound underwriting judgment.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading, coaching, and developing a team in a brokerage or underwriting environment.
  • Relationships: Track record of building long-term, productive relationships with agents, brokers, and carriers.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree and/or industry designations (CIC, CPCU) preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Surplus Lines (preferred): Familiarity with E&S market dynamics and California compliance a plus.
