What is book proofreading?

A Book Proofreading job involves reviewing a manuscript to identify and correct errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting before publication. Proofreaders ensure the text is polished, consistent, and adheres to the publisher's style guidelines. Unlike editing, which focuses on content and structure, proofreading is the final step to catch minor mistakes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in book proofreading?

To thrive as a Book Proofreader, you need exceptional attention to detail, a strong command of grammar and language usage, and familiarity with various style guides, typically supported by a degree in English or a related field. Experience with word processing and document editing tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or specialized proofreading software is highly beneficial. Excellent time management, communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a publishing team help set a candidate apart. These skills and qualities are essential to ensuring text accuracy, consistency, and readiness for publication in a deadline-driven environment.

How do I become a book proofreader?

To become a book proofreader, you should develop strong language and grammar skills, often through a degree or certification in editing or proofreading. Gaining experience with editing tools and building a portfolio can help, and many proofreaders work freelance or for publishing companies, often requiring attention to detail and knowledge of style guides like the Chicago Manual of Style.

What are some of the common challenges faced by book proofreaders?

Book proofreaders often face challenges such as tight deadlines, maintaining concentration during long or repetitive projects, and ensuring consistency across various sections or editions of a manuscript. Balancing thoroughness with efficiency is crucial, as even minor errors can significantly impact the quality and professionalism of the final publication. Additionally, proofreaders may need to navigate differing editorial preferences or style guides, depending on the client or publisher. Staying organized and adaptable helps proofreaders deliver accurate, polished work under varying project conditions.

Is there a demand for book proofreaders?

Book proofreaders are in steady demand as publishers, authors, and editing services seek to ensure high-quality, error-free content. The role often requires strong language skills and familiarity with editing tools, and demand can vary based on publishing trends and the volume of new book projects.

Job description

SALES DEVELOPMENT REPRESENTATIVE (SDR)

Location: Lehi, Utah (Full-time in-office; flexibility available for proven performers)
Reports to: Head of Sales
Employment type: Full-time
Target start date: Mid-July 2026

ABOUT ALL PRO SECURITY

All Pro Security is a rapidly growing regional security company operating across Utah, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Colorado, with nationwide brokering capabilities. We partner with businesses, commercial properties, event organizers, HOAs, and facilities to deliver proactive and highly visible security solutions backed by technology, accountability, and responsive operations support.

Unlike many national competitors, we move fast, support our sales teams directly, and provide the operational backing needed to win and retain business.

THE ROLE

We're hiring a Sales Development Representative (SDR) to be the engine of our outbound sales effort across all brands and all five states. You'll be the first point of contact with prospective customers: finding them, reaching them, qualifying them, and booking meetings for our Business Development Managers in the field.

This is a high-activity, high-impact role for someone who's hungry, organized, and ready to learn. You'll work directly with the Head of Sales, sit in the middle of every brand's growth strategy, and have a clear path to a Business Development Manager (BDM) role as you prove yourself.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Build and maintain target prospect lists using Seamless.AI and HubSpot across all five states
- Run high-volume outbound outreach by phone, email, and social media to facility managers, property managers, risk and security directors, construction project managers and other buyer personas across our brands
- Qualify inbound leads from our marketing and digital advertising efforts
- Book qualified meetings on BDM calendars and ensure clean handoffs
- Manage CRM hygiene in HubSpot: accurate records, next steps, and pipeline data
- Support proposal and RFP responses for approximately 2 RFPs per month using our AI-augmented proposal workflow (research, content gathering, formatting, proofreading, submission)
- Help track win/loss data and contribute to sales playbook improvements
- Collaborate with operations, marketing, and BDMs across all brands

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required:
- 1 to 2 years of work experience in any environment that requires hustle, structure, and people skills (sales, customer service, mission service, hospitality, retail management, military, fundraising, etc.)
- Strong communication skills, comfortable on the phone and clear in writing
- Coachable, self-disciplined, organized
- Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new tools (HubSpot, Seamless.AI, MS Office tools)
- Able to pass a background check
- Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred:
- Some college, a degree, or equivalent structured experience. We value military service, full-time missionary service, and similar structured programs
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
- Prior experience with HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar
- Prior SDR, inside sales, telemarketing, or door-to-door sales experience
- Experience with B2B services, security, construction, property management, or related industries

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

- Competitive base salary plus performance-based variable compensation
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and holidays
- Clear career growth path to Business Development Manager

Equal Opportunity Employer
All Pro Security is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to creating an inclusive workplace for all employees and applicants.
