Job description

Accounting Manager

Are you a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in building systems that actually work? This is a role for someone who wants to own the function — not just manage a checklist.

What You'll Do

You'll lead and develop an accounting team while overseeing the full spectrum of governmental fund accounting — from monthly reconciliations and payroll oversight to budget preparation and federal financial reporting. You'll be the final set of eyes on transactions, approvals, and cash flow accuracy, ensuring everything closes clean and on time.

Day-to-day, you'll manage fund reconciliations, chart of accounts structure, travel claims, investment splits, and funding code assignments. You'll also play a key role in audit support, grant disbursement tracking, and the build-out of long-term water augmentation accounting procedures — work that genuinely matters for the community this organization serves.

When team members need backup coverage, you'll step in confidently across bond proceeds, period expense reporting, arbitration preparation, and internal audit functions.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience managing an accounting team and developing staff

  • Strong command of governmental or fund accounting principles

  • Comfort working in complex ERP environments (AZ360 experience a plus)

  • Sharp eye for reconciliation, compliance, and process improvement

  • Familiarity with federal financial reporting and grant accounting

Why This Role Stands Out

You'll have visibility into budgeting, payroll, investments, and long-term infrastructure projects — all while mentoring a team and shaping how the accounting function evolves. If you want meaningful work with real ownership, this is it.
