Job description

Position Summary

Kwolyewm Services, LLC is seeking a Boiler Tender that will be responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks related to installing, maintaining and repairing boilers, power plants, and stationary engines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follows procedures, regulations and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks.
  • Tends to or fires one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water.
  • Observes and interprets readings and gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation.
  • Adjusts controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water.
  • Maintains log in which various aspects of boiler maintenance and operation or recorded.
  • Cleans, oils, makes minor repairs or assists in the repair to boiler room equipment.
  • Follows prescribed methods to treat boiler water with chemicals.
  • Follows prescribed methods to analyze boiler water for acidity, causticity and alkalinity.
  • Locates, picks up, and delivers parts required for department needs.
  • Assists in coordinating and monitoring the work of General Maintenance Workers or Maintenance Trades Helper providing instruction and reviewing completed projects.
  • May prepare work sketches and assist in the design and specifications of planned work.
  • Responds to emergency calls after normal work hours.
  • Frequent travel between facilities is required.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four (4) years of work experience in a related field.
  • Skilled in the repair of electronic control equipment.
  • Knowledge of commercial mechanical and electrical systems, and ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding Boiler Tender repair and maintenance for occupied spaces.
  • Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials and manage resources.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common-sense skills
  • Ability to work safely.
  • Customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests and escalate the more difficult matters appropriately.
  • Communication skills to provide procedural and factual information, and to follow instructions.
  • Flexibility to build effective working relationships with staff, customers, and others.
  • Ability to travel to various facilities, and to work independently as a team.

Certificates or Licenses Required

  • The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
    • Valid Drivers License

Physical Requirements

  • Maneuvering to and around equipment.
  • Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
  • Lifting and moving equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Climbing ladders or step stools.
  • Monitoring gauges, controls, and/or other computer systems.

Work Environment

Work is performed at a customer's location in an office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, on rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and, depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
