Job Description:

WilsonartinTemple, Texashas an opening for a Boiler Operator

Wilsonart, Temple, Texas Maintenance department currently has an opening for a Boiler Operator. This person will oversee proper and efficient operations of the boiler, air compressors, chillers (air conditioner), water systems and all other equipment in the boiler area under direction of Mechanical Supervisor. Performs other tasks as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare the boiler room for plant operations and shut downs.
  • Monitor the boiler pressure, water levels and temperature of all machinery within the boiler area.
  • Respond to all system alarms.
  • Maintain the log and records on all gauge readings.
  • Shut the system down for maintenance work, then bring it back on line.
  • Shut the boiler down and then bring it back up for maintenance.
  • Monitor and control boiler house functions boilers, air compressors, chillers and dust collectors.
  • Monitor and control Hydrotherm water storage, cooling towers.
  • Power outage shutdown and start up procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of safety standards applicable to the work area and other pertinent rules/regulations governing work standards.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical operation of the boiler.
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste materials and safe handling procedures.
  • Ability to read instruments and gauges.
  • Basic understanding of boiler operation and maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of hydrothermal water systems and operational controls.
  • Understanding of cooling towers and their operation.
  • Ability to read and understand at a technical level.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical/electrical complications of the boiler operation.
  • Ability to make quick decisions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

EDUCATION: High School Graduate or GED

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years

plus two years of power plant/boiler operation experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking/pushing/climbing and lifting material or equipment of heavy weight (>50 lbs) Examples: grounds staff and EMS

ENVIRONMENT: Located in an environment with regular exposure to fumes or odors, temperature extremes, or loud noises which cause noticeable discomfort or moderate risk of accident or illness. Examples: engineering, waste mgt, laundry workers and yards/grounds staff.
