Job description

As a Field Engineer, you will conduct hands-on field inspections of power boilers, pressure vessels, power piping, steam turbines, and related critical components. The position is based out of our Chesterland, OH office. The successful candidate is willing to learn and apply project management, nondestructive testing, metallurgy, and applicable codes and standards for the power generation and process industries. Travel: 70% travel, includes local, overnight out of town and international
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct hands-on field inspections of power boilers, pressure vessels, power piping, steam turbines, and related critical components.
  • Collect accurate field data and compose detailed engineering reports documenting the results from inspections.
  • Manage the field crew which consists of technical craft laborers that specialize in weld repairs, examination of critical components and non-destructive testing while at the job site.
  • Communicate and present report findings to the field crew, management and the client.
  • Oversee and supervise work performed by subcontractors and troubleshoot any problems that may occur out in the field.
  • Performs other duties as needed to support the team.

Work Environment: This position operates occasionally in a professional office and frequently operates within a variety of power and utility plants. Position will entail frequent exposure to varying conditions with exposure to any or all of the following: Heat, Cold, Heights, Dust, Dirt, Indoor, Outdoors, and Confined Areas.
Physical Demands

  • Lifting weight up to and over 50 lbs in both a vertical and horizontal range of motion.
  • Crawl, stoop, stand, reach (push/pull) & bend to perform necessary work.
  • Able to ascend and descend on extension ladders, step ladders and stairs using feet and/or hands and arms.
  • Able to drive a company vehicle, walk around at job sites and navigate the uneven terrain.
  • Computer input, typing an answering the phone.
  • Clarity of vision at both over 20 feet and under 20 inches.
  • Able to judge depth (distance & space relationships), have a good field of vision, and identify and distinguish colors.
  • Adjustment of eye to bring object into sharp focus.
  • Using oil or chemicals.

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field
  • Experience writing technical reports (sample will be required at time of interview)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software to include, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
  • Valid US Passport or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to effectively interact with employees from all levels within an organization
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to practice discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years' experience conducting field services within a related industry.
