Boh Kitchen Manager information

What is a BOH kitchen manager?

BOH (Back of House) Kitchen Managers are responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations in a restaurant or food service establishment. They manage kitchen staff, ensure food safety and quality standards are met, maintain inventory, and coordinate with front-of-house managers to ensure smooth service. Their role is crucial in maintaining efficiency, hygiene, and consistency in food preparation and delivery.

How does a BOH kitchen manager typically balance administrative duties with hands-on kitchen management?

A BOH (Back of House) Kitchen Manager often splits their time between administrative tasks—such as inventory management, scheduling, and compliance—and being physically present in the kitchen to oversee food preparation and support staff. Effective time management is crucial, as the role requires both ensuring operational efficiency behind the scenes and maintaining high culinary standards during service. Many managers schedule administrative work during off-peak hours to stay engaged with kitchen staff during busy periods, fostering teamwork and addressing issues in real time. This balance helps maintain smooth operations and supports staff development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BOH kitchen manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BOH Kitchen Manager, you need strong culinary knowledge, experience in kitchen operations, and typically a background in food safety and management. Familiarity with inventory management systems, scheduling software, and food safety certifications like ServSafe are highly valuable. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing staff and maintaining a positive work environment. These skills ensure efficient kitchen operations, food quality, and compliance with safety standards, which are critical for restaurant success.

This is not a sit-back management role. Our Team Leaders are in the kitchen with the team, moving quickly, solving problems, coaching others, and ensuring our food is prepared safely, accurately, and efficiently every single shift.

If you enjoy working hard, leading people, and taking pride in operational excellence, this role may be a great fit for you.

What You'll Do

As a Kitchen Team Leader, you will help lead the team through daily operations while maintaining the high standards Chick-fil-A is known for.

You will:

  • Lead Team Members during shifts while working alongside them in kitchen positions
  • Maintain a strong focus on food safety, speed, and quality
  • Uphold and reinforce store policies, procedures, and operational standards
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback to improve team performance
  • Support training and development in partnership with Trainers
  • Execute operational procedures including shift change, opening/closing, and day part transitions
  • Complete safety, quality, and operational checklists
  • Communicate observations, challenges, and wins to leadership
What We're Looking For

This role is best for someone who enjoys high standards, fast pace, and hands-on leadership.

The right candidate will have:

  • Availability to work at least 35+ hours per week
  • A strong work ethic and ability to stay focused in a busy kitchen environment
  • Excellent task management, follow-through, and attention to detail
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence to coach teammates and have professional conversations when needed
  • Ability to lead while working side-by-side with the team
  • A positive, servant-hearted attitude
  • Alignment with our core values: Teamwork, Growth, and Serve
What Success Looks Like

In this role, success means:

  • Shifts run smoothly with strong execution of systems and procedures
  • Team Members receive clear expectations and timely coaching
  • Safety, cash, and cleanliness standards are consistently met
  • Feedback is documented and communicated to leadership
  • The kitchen team stays motivated and guests receive excellent food and service
Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting at $17+/hour
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits available
  • 401(k) options
  • Leadership development opportunities

Working at a Chick-fil-A restaurant is more than a job - it's an opportunity for teamwork and leadership development in a positive, people-focused environment.
