Senior Mechanical & Structural Engineering (MSE) Manager | Structures & Payloads Design Capability

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking a talented and creative Senior Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager to lead the BDS Structures & Payloads Design Capability who is passionate about skill development of engineering personnel, first time quality, safety, improving training and execution across the business unit, and solving complex problems by applying business judgement, engineering principles, and creative thinking. The selected candidate will collaborate with high-performing teams of MSE leaders in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to drive productivity, continuous improvement, professional learning and model-based systems engineering applications across all BDS business unit Divisions and Programs.

This position will require partnership and collaboration with the Enterprise Functional Chief Engineers' office to provide key inputs for training development and application of engineering Design Practices, among other initiatives to better execute across the Enterprise. For employee development and understanding of the Enterprise skill needs, the person in this role with be a participating member of the BDS MSE Skill Team, to include supporting the Technical Fellowship with inputs regarding expertise needs and development roadmaps.

The ability to lead by influence is necessary for success in this role. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain relationships with customers, program leadership, peers, and direct reports across BDS Divisions and the Mechanical & Structural Design Engineering organization. In addition, the candidate will champion a culture of inclusion, continuous learning, professional development, and development program excellence with options to work from Berkeley, MO; El Segundo, CA; Ridley Park, PA;' Huntsville, AL; Mesa, AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Houston, TX; Titusville, FL; or Seattle, WA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Champion technical excellence through activities such as technical design reviews and design expertise inputs, including Development Excellence efforts with Divisions.
  • Develop and execute strategies to build a strong (BDS-wide) MSE Design Engineering capability that manages the development & implementation of Boeing Design Practices, processes and tools, knowledge capture and curation, scaling of Standards, and long & near-term functional strategy and future vision.
  • Lead BDS MSE Design Engineering Capability initiatives to drive predictability and stability to program performance.
  • Foster a relationship with the Division MSE leaders and BDS Workforce as the primary focal to address workforce balancing and redeployment of resources to support program execution and strategies.
  • Partner with Enterprise Mechanical & Structural Engineering management peers to create and manage loan-in and loan-out resource opportunities, cross-training and development opportunities and job assignments to grow MSE Design talent and enhance employee performance.
  • Promote employee recognition and build a culture that improves employee satisfaction and retains a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Lead BDS MSE Design Engineering to ensure proper representation, assistance, funding, and execution on BDS programs to provide our customers with safe, reliable and compliant products.

Candidates must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance post-start.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 5+ years of Mechanical & Structural Engineering disciplines experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Willing to travel on average 20% of the time across a calendar year.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Experience working with DoD Customers.
  • Experience across entire life cycle (Create/Develop/Produce/Sustain).
  • MBE/MBSE (Digital Engineering) experience
  • Tools experience with CATIA, NX, or other CAD applications
