Job description

Job Summary:

The Body Shop Technician repairs damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership specifications, using hand tools and power tools.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties as assigned)

  • Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window-and-seat-operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle body and fenders.
  • Position dolly block against surface of dented area and beat opposite surface with a hammer to remove dents.
  • Fill depressions with body filler using a putty knife.
  • Remove damaged fenders, panels and grills using wrenches and cutting torch.
  • Bolt or weld replacement parts in position using wrenches or welding equipment.
  • Straighten bent automobile frames using a pneumatic frame straightening machine.
  • File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
  • Refinish repaired surface using a sander and paint spray gun.
  • Aim headlights, align wheels, and bleed hydraulic brake system.
  • Paint surfaces after repairing body parts.
  • Replace or repair defective mechanical parts.
  • Maintain CSI in top 10% of group.
  • Adhere to dealership policies and procedures set forth by dealership management and manufacturer specifications.

Required Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
  • Two years of experience as a technician or apprentice is required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid New York State Driver License.

Equipment, Machines and Software Used:

  • Computer software: Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and CDK.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.

Physical Exertion:

  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 70 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Light exertion can involve sitting, walking and/or standing most of the time.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Will be exposed to noise, vibrations, dust, exhaust fumes, paint and other hazardous or nonhazardous materials.
  • Must wear all protective equipment required for the position. (i.e., respirators, glasses, earplugs, paint suits, hoods, etc.).

Hazards and Safety Precautions:

  • Hazards: Slips, trips and falls, ergonomic injuries, and occasional lifting.
  • Safety Precautions: Breaks are encouraged to allow for stretching and training is provided covering slips, trips, and falls, safe lifting and stretching techniques.
