Crown Technology is a family-owned Indianapolis chemical manufacturer and one of the largest domestic suppliers of ferrous sulfate products. Their ferrous sulfate is derived from the sulfuric acid pickling of steel and used across fertilizer, water purification, wastewater treatment, and soil remediation industries. They hold AWWA compliance and distribute in 40+ states.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Dryer Operator works in the Ferrous Sulfate Production department and is responsible for operating a fluid bed dryer to convert moist ferrous sulfate crystals into dry finished product. This operator will primarily dry Food Grade material on first pass and may also dry Technical Grade material as needed. The role also supports the downstream packaging line, loading approved dried ferrous sulfate into the bagging and palletizing line. The operator is accountable for hitting daily production targets, following all SOPs and Work Instructions, maintaining quality standards, and upholding safety and housekeeping requirements throughout the drying and warehouse areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and monitor fluid bed dryer to process moist ferrous sulfate crystals to finished dry spec (Food Grade primary, Technical Grade as needed)
- Monitor dryer temperatures, feed rates, and moisture levels; make adjustments to maintain product quality
- Perform pre-shift equipment checks and document any issues or abnormalities
- Load approved dried ferrous sulfate into packaging line per Work Instructions and SOPs
- Offload moist ferrous sulfate bulk trucks and move product to bunker storage using forklift and/or Bobcat
- Assist in dumping moist ferrous sulfate bulk bags
- Maintain accurate moist and dried ferrous sulfate material tracking
- Communicate lot changeovers with Bagger Operator
- Sample dried ferrous sulfate for QC testing
- Complete work orders and production records throughout shift
- Conduct visual and physical quality checks on finished product; flag off-spec product to supervisor
- Meet daily production targets as set by management
- Maintain clean and organized work area; perform housekeeping duties in drying line and warehouse areas throughout shift
- Follow all safety protocols including proper PPE usage when handling chemical product
- Communicate equipment issues or production concerns to supervisor promptly
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Prior experience operating industrial drying equipment strongly preferred - fluid bed dryer experience is a plus
- Experience in chemical manufacturing, industrial production, or heavy manufacturing environment a plus
- Forklift experience required
- Bobcat experience preferred; candidates without must be willing to learn - this is a critical component of the role
- Ability to read and follow written Work Instructions and SOPs
- Mechanically inclined - comfortable monitoring gauges, making basic adjustments, and identifying equipment issues
- Must be comfortable working around chemical materials with proper PPE (dust, heat, mild chemical exposure)
- Reliable attendance and ability to maintain consistent output on a 3rd shift schedule
- Strong attention to detail and basic recordkeeping ability
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing and walking for the majority of an 8-hour shift
- Lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift
- Bending, reaching, and operating production line equipment in an industrial environment
- Operating forklift and Bobcat in a warehouse and outdoor truck offloading environment
- Working in a facility with dust, heat, and chemical odor exposure - PPE required and provided (Need steel toes)
