Job description

SUMMARY:  

Perform all pouring and utility task, assist maintenance and operations team members meet essential duties and responsibilities. The utility primary role is asphalt packaging. The utility position must be consistently demonstrating knowledge, behaviors, and abilities that are essential for producing asphalt packaged product safely, meeting quality and productivity standards for pouring and handling asphalt. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all utility job tasks such as pouring asphalt, operating forklifts, making cartons, working safely and keeping work area clean.
  • Load and unload flatbed trucks.
  • Insure compliance with the pouring shed standards.
  • Quality assurance: correct product, in the correct cartons with minimum spillage on the carton or floor.
  • Assemble cartons used for holding hot asphalt
  • Set-up cartons in aisle in compliance with the pouring shed standard.
  • Band and stack pallets as required for shipment.
  • Clear aisles with forklift as required to provide continuous pouring of asphalt.
  • Perform asphalt pouring burn out with a propane torch safely.
  • Make count of finish goods and material inventories.
  • Inform customer service of any trucking issues, concerns or needs.
  • Submit request for materials/supplies via email to customer service rep.
  • Maintain forklift safety checklist.
  • Make sure aisles are set up for the next day
  • Ensure everything is secure at the end of the day (pumps, valves,     gas bottles, pouring spouts, etc.
  • Perform all work safely and in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Active engagement in the plant's Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The employee should hold the following abilities:

  • Properly use tools and housekeeping resources (examples - mop, broom, powered industrial floor scrubber, shovel, pick, paint brush, lawn mower, weed eater, rake, etc.)
  • Assess and only operate equipment when all guarding and safety devices are in proper working order
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently and in a group
  • Understand and follow instructions both oral and written
  • Have good communication skills
  • Must perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Qualified Lift Truck and Bobcat Operator
  • Knowledge of all safe work procedures

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

The employee must be able of:

  • Perform basic computer skills i.e. Microsoft office, excel. And word
  • Log onto a computer and navigate via keyboard to access paycheck/benefits enrollment information and accomplish required online training routinely

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education (GED)

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Range of Motion:  Full, some bending, lifting, and standing for an 8-12-hour period.
  • Lifting Capacity:  Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 40 pounds' chest-high.
  • Sitting/Standing:  Standing for 8 hours daily, and moving up and down production line.
  • The incumbent will work in dusty, dirty, hot, wet conditions, or at elevated heights. The employee stands most of the day and, at times, may need to move moderately heavy cartons of asphalt. The incumbent is exposed to hazards such as hot equipment, product, and fumes. He/she may work in awkward a position which exposes them to additional hazards. They are required to use protective equipment such as safety shields, safety glasses, steel-tipped shoes, gloves, and other PPE.
