Description
Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) is seeking an Able Bodied Seaman (AB) to work aboard the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) research vessel (R/V) Lake Guardian.
The R/V Lake Guardian is a 180' twin screw vessel, fitted with navigational, laboratory, mechanical equipment, computer systems and satellite internet connectivity. The facilities support the EPA's primary mission of gathering data to assess status and trends of Great Lakes water quality and ecosystem health via sampling of Great Lakes water, sediment, and lower food web organisms.
As an Able-Bodied Seaman (AB) onboard R/V Lake Guardian, you will be a vital crew member responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the vessel.
Tasks/Duties
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks as part of the Deck department.
  • Operate deck machinery, support for scientific equipment operations.
  • Conduct watch duties, as scheduled by the Captain and First Mate.
  • Assist in navigation and steering of the ship under the officer's supervision.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of the ship.

Requirements
  • Hold a USCG Merchant Mariners AB Certification with firefighting and life boatman endorsements.
  • Must hold a current TWIC card.
  • Must be a member, or willing to become a member of the International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots union.
  • Ability to work collegially with scientists, natural resources managers, and educators.
  • Have a valid US state issued driver's license.
