Job description

The Boat Driver at Stout's Island Lodge plays a critical role in ensuring that guests receive an exceptional experience from the moment they arrive at our island until the time they depart. This role combines transportation, guest service, communication, and general maintenance responsibilities, making it essential to the smooth operation of the resort. The Boat Driver will be the first point of contact for guests, setting the tone for their stay and ensuring their arrival and departure are seamless.
Key Responsibilities:
Guest Arrival & Departure:
Ø Greet guests upon arrival at the dock, assist with luggage tagging, and transport them to the island.
Ø Provide guests with a brief tour of the island while transporting them to their accommodations.
Ø Once guests are settled, transport luggage to their rooms.
Ø At checkout, coordinate with office staff to collect luggage from guest rooms and transport it back to the ferry for departure.
Guest Interaction & Communication:
Ø Serve as a central point of contact between guests and the resort staff during their stay.
Ø Ensure that all guest requests and needs are communicated effectively with the relevant departments.
Ø Maintain a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor with guests, setting a high standard for hospitality.
Maintenance & Operations:
Ø Perform general maintenance tasks including upkeep of boats, golf carts, cabins, pontoons, docks, and grounds.
Ø Assist with removing waste, propane tanks, food supplies, and event materials from the island.
Ø Handle minor boat or dock repairs as needed and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
Additional Responsibilities:
Ø Support other departments, including the kitchen, housekeeping, and event staff, as required.
Ø Assist with the coordination of special events and ensure all logistics run smoothly.
Problem Solving & Multitasking:
Ø Demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness to address any issues that arise during the guest experience.
Ø Handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a calm and positive attitude, even under pressure.
Qualifications:
Ø Prior experience in customer service or hospitality is preferred.
Ø Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with guests and staff.
Ø Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ø Comfortable with minor maintenance work and general upkeep tasks.
Ø Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ø Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and on the water.
Ø Ability to lift and carry luggage or supplies, occasionally requiring physical exertion.
Preferred Skills:
Ø Minor boat maintenance experience.
Ø CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Ø Knowledge of the local area and Stout's Island Lodge's facilities.
The Boat Driver will work primarily outdoors, including on the water, and may be exposed to various weather conditions. This position may require evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, depending on guest needs.
