A Boat Sitting job involves taking care of a boat while the owner is away. Responsibilities may include basic maintenance, security checks, cleaning, and ensuring systems like battery and bilge pumps are functioning properly. Some boat sitters may stay onboard, while others visit periodically. The job helps owners keep their vessels in good condition and ready for use.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a boat sitter?

As a Boat Sitter, your daily responsibilities usually include checking and ensuring the vessel's security, monitoring moorings or dock lines, inspecting bilge and electrical systems, and performing regular light cleaning or maintenance tasks. You may also be responsible for airing out the cabin, running the engine periodically, and managing any minor issues that arise. Communication with the boat owner is key, as you'll provide updates about the boat's condition and promptly report any concerns. The role may also involve coordinating with marina staff or service personnel if repairs are needed. By maintaining a proactive approach, you help ensure the vessel stays in top condition until the owner returns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a boat sitter?

To thrive as a Boat Sitter, you need practical boating skills, a solid understanding of basic marine maintenance, and often a boating license or certification. Familiarity with onboard systems, navigation equipment, and vessel monitoring tools is typically required.
