Job description

Generator Shop Technician Opportunity Summary:

Are you a generator tech who would rather build and repair on the bench than chase service calls? As a Generator Shop Technician at W.W. Williams, youll diagnose, repair, and rebuild standby power generators and related power-generation equipment right here in our shop alongside an experienced team focused on getting equipment running right and back to the customer fast.

Job Duties:

  • Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain standby power generators, fire-pump drivers, and related power-generation equipment in the shop.
  • Troubleshoot generator controls (AC and DC), automatic transfer switches (ATS), breakers, voltage regulators, and alternators using electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Inspect and service supporting systems fuel, cooling, lubrication, and electrical.
  • Perform load-bank testing and accurately record instrumentation readings.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and determine the reusability of components per OEM guidelines.
  • Build a clear repair plan operations needed and estimated hours and document parts and labor accurately on work orders.
  • Stay current on product changes, specifications, and OEM service bulletins.
  • Keep a safe, clean, organized work area and follow all company, safety, and EPA standards.

Work Experience & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years servicing or repairing generators (8.5kW3500kW), or equivalent training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, circuitry, and diesel engines.
  • Comfort using electronic diagnostic tools and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • EGSA certification is a plus and if you dont have it yet, well help you earn it.
  • Your own hand tools (we back you with a Tool Replacement Insurance program).
  • Transitioning military, trade-school graduates, and apprentice-level techs ready to grow are encouraged to apply.
