Position Title: Boat Detailer Department: Top Shop

Salary Range: $15.50 Reports to: Top Shop Manager

Employment Status: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Incumbent is responsible for cleaning, washing, polishing vessels, as well as related machinery and equipment. Ensure that all detailing jobs meet high-quality standards and will work with Marine Mechanics on entry level maintenance and repair tasks. The incumbent will work closely with a qualified mechanic to assist with tasks when needed and/or assigned tasks up to the level of their abilities.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Clean and polish vessels and related equipment utilizing power tools in a safe manner.
  • Meet customers' needs and strive for customer satisfaction at all times while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Scrub, scrape, or spray parts, machinery and vessels using scrapers, brushes, cleaners, disinfectants, insecticides, acid, abrasives, vacuums and/or hoses.
  • Apply materials such as paints, dyes, polishes, waxes for the purpose of preserving, protecting and restoring the condition of vessels and related equipment.
  • Perform detailing tasks in a meticulous and thorough manner to ensure quality of work.
  • Inspect boat and equipment for cleanliness, damage and compliance with standards.
  • Maintain inventories or supplies, reports to foreman when supplies are needed.
  • Mix cleaning solutions, abrasive compositions, or other compounds, according to formulas.
  • Transport trailered boats to and from work area.
  • Sweep, shovel, or vacuum loose debris or salvageable scrap into containers and remove containers from work areas.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all safety and environmental requirements.
  • Ability to follow the instructions of the qualified mechanic.
  • Ability to learn basic maintenance procedures such as, oil changes, replacing parts, etc.
  • Complete work, and fill out work order in detail to be billed.
  • Possess the ability to react productively to other duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications (i.e. credentials, certifications) The incumbent must have a strong work ethic in order to meet workload demands and fulfill regular duties of the position; must possess interpersonal and communication skills for efficient collaboration with peers and supervisor in the completion of tasks as assigned; some experience in a professional or educational automotive detail shop is preferable.

Education High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience Some experience detailing vessels and/or automobiles in a commercial and/or private setting is preferred.

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of APM marina services and amenities.
  • Skills which allow for the tactful resolution of guest problems or concerns.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in fire extinguisher operation.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in ISO/EMS awareness.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in employee orientation.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazard communication.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in hazardous materials response/respiratory protection.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in emergency response.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in recyclable materials.
  • Knowledge or ability to be trained in blood borne pathogen awareness.

Working Conditions

The performance of stated functions and duties may occur in, but are not limited to: office settings, confined spaces such as boat hulls, public or common areas such as restaurant or retail establishment; inclement weather conditions may be a factor including rain, snow, wind, extreme temperatures. General industry levels of noise and stimuli should be expected in all settings.

*Controllable working conditions (i.e. temperature, lighting) may be altered to create a more conducive working environment for staffing needs, however such accommodations shall not create an undue hardship on the Company or other staff members.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of the position may include, but are not limited to sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying and otherwise maneuvering heavy objects with or without assistance. Climbing, crouching, reaching, extending and other bodily movements in work areas such as boats, office settings, docks.

English Proficiency

It is important that the incumbent be able to communicate effectively in English including speaking, understanding, reading, and writing for the purpose of general interactions with staff, guests and customers. Additional linguistic proficiency is welcomed and encouraged, but not required for the performance of the position.
