Work EnvironmentMarinas, boat docks, storage facilitiesMarinas, boatyards, detailing shops
Job DutiesBasic cleaning, washing, and exterior maintenanceDeep cleaning, polishing, cosmetic repairs, and detailing
Industry UsageCommonly used for routine cleaning tasksUsed for aesthetic enhancement and detailed cleaning

Boat Cleaners focus on routine cleaning and maintenance of boats, often performing basic washing and exterior cleaning. Marine Detailers, on the other hand, provide more comprehensive services including polishing, cosmetic repairs, and detailed interior cleaning. While both roles work in similar environments, Marine Detailers typically require additional skills and certifications for advanced detailing tasks.

What are some common challenges faced by boat cleaners and how can they be addressed?

Boat cleaners often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, removing tough marine stains, and handling chemicals safely. To address these, it’s important to wear appropriate protective gear, use eco-friendly cleaning products, and follow safety protocols. Additionally, developing a systematic cleaning routine and staying up to date with the latest cleaning techniques can help ensure efficient and thorough results.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Boat Cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Boat Cleaner, you need attention to detail, physical stamina, and knowledge of cleaning techniques and marine-safe products, with experience or training in marine maintenance being beneficial. Familiarity with pressure washers, buffing tools, and eco-friendly cleaning agents is typically required. Strong time management, reliability, and good communication skills help ensure client satisfaction and efficient teamwork. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining vessel appearance, preventing damage, and upholding safety and environmental standards.

What are boat cleaners?

Boat cleaners are professionals who specialize in cleaning and maintaining the interior and exterior surfaces of boats. Their duties typically include washing, waxing, polishing, removing algae or barnacles, and ensuring all areas are free of dirt, salt, and debris. They use specialized cleaning products and tools to protect the boat's materials and prolong its lifespan. Boat cleaners may work for marinas, boat dealerships, or independently, providing regular maintenance or deep cleaning services. This helps maintain the vessel’s appearance, prevents damage, and can even improve its resale value.

Job description

Boat Cleaner and Detailer @ Long Lake Marina

Company: Long Lake Marina

Location: Naples, ME

Job Type: Seasonal

Pay: $16–$22/hr depending on experince

The Role

At Long Lake Marina, we take pride in delivering boats that look brand new. We are looking for hardworking, detail-oriented Boat Detailers to join our crew in Naples.

Work Schedule & Availability

  • Weekend Commitment: The busy cleaning times are at either end of the season. Weekend overtime is available during these periods.
  • Hours: [e.g., 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, weather permitting].

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities for interior cleaning will include vacuuming, scrubbing vinyl upholstery, cleaning glass/windshields, and ensuring all compartments are debris-free and clean. You will also be responsible for exterior detailing with tasks such as washing hulls, removing water lines, and applying wax or ceramic coatings to gelcoat. You will work quickly and efficiently to meet daily turnaround schedules.

Required Skills & Qualifications

You must have attention to detail and notice the spots others miss such as crumbs in the cup holders or the streaks on the chrome. You should be comfortable working outdoors in the summer heat, humidity, and sun, but most cleaning is done inside. You must be able to pass a background check and have a reliable way to get to work in Naples. You will also be working with our dock staff and service technicians to get boats ready on time.

Physical demands include the following:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (moving gear, heavy vacuums, or boat covers).
  • Constant climbing in and out of boats on trailers and docks.
  • Ability to spend long shifts on your feet, bending, reaching, and scrubbing.

If you're interested in joining the Long Lake Marina team this season, apply today!
