What is a board chaplain?

Board Chaplains are spiritual leaders or clergy members who provide guidance, support, and ethical oversight to a board of directors or governing body within an organization. Their primary role is to offer spiritual care, facilitate prayers or invocations at meetings, and ensure that the board’s decisions align with the organization's faith-based values. Board Chaplains also serve as confidential advisors, helping to address personal or ethical concerns among board members. They play a unique role in fostering a compassionate and values-driven culture within the board and the wider organization.

How does a board chaplain typically support board members during challenging or high-pressure situations?

A Board Chaplain plays a vital role in providing emotional and spiritual support to board members, especially during high-stress meetings or when sensitive decisions must be made. Certification from a recognized chaplaincy organization and familiarity with military or institutional environments are often required. Some positions may also require background checks and ongoing education to maintain certification.
