Title: Boar Stud Herdsperson - Full Time

Description: Boar stud herdsman reports to Boar Stud Manager and is responsible for semen collection, daily care, health and maintenance for all boars in designated work site.

Hours: Generally - Monday-Friday 6:00a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; times may vary based on business needs

Compensation: $15.25/ hour


Essential Job Functions:

  • Caring for and handling of boars
  • Collect semen from boars, based on EBV criteria
  • Daily animal movement
  • Feeding and checking waters
  • Routine training of new boars
  • Aid in loading culls, unloading of new animals
  • Monitor and treat boars as needed by administering vaccines and medicines
  • Cleaning facilities and minor maintenance
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records
  • Understand and follow Holden Farms Biosecurity Program
  • Help in other areas of the farm as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interest in working with animals with a desire to learn and self-develop
  • Detailed oriented and meticulous
  • Ability to always work calmly with animals
  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude
  • ability to do basic math - adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Dependable and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk and be on feet for 4+ hrs./day
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, squat and kneel
  • Must have reliable transportation
