The BNSF Railway Compliance and Audit Department ensures adherence to best practices in corporate governance, risk management, and internal controls, fostering trust and alignment with business partners. Travel is minimal to none.

Salary range:

2+ more years of experience: $81,500 - $100,000

The range reflects what BNSF Railway reasonably expects to pay for this position, based on the role's level, scope, and responsibilities. Final compensation and position level will be determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Key responsibilities may include:ย 

Lead risk assessment and audits projects in operations, financials, and technology areas of BNSF.

Development, management and evaluationย of the appropriateness of the system of internal controls.

Evaluateย compliance to BNSF / Federal rules and regulations.

Develop effectiveย strategiesย to minimize risk in areas we audit.

Developย and coachย othersย in audit methodologies ensuring up-to-date standards are maintained.

Presentย results, both in written and verbal formats.ย 

Work independentlyย and in team environment to maximize performance.ย 


Daily work
is conducted in an indoor office environment.

Basic Qualifications:ย 

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF's assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in audit or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:ย 

  • Masters Business Administration (MBA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or another applicable certification(s) is a plus.
  • In-charge level audit experience, either public or private.
  • Detail oriented, conscientious, self-starter, having the ability to successfully balance multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (at all levels) with an ability to build strong, positive relationships with business partners.
  • Experience managing projects using a project management methodology.
  • Ability to apply project management techniques, analytical techniques, programming or system query techniques.
