Job description

Steel Project Manager

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Steel Project Manager to oversee structural steel fabrication and erection projects from contract award through project closeout. This role is responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating with detailing, fabrication, purchasing, field operations, subcontractors, and general contractors to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects from preconstruction through final completion.

  • Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and submittals.

  • Coordinate with detailing, fabrication, purchasing, and field erection teams.

  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, labor costs, and material procurement.

  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

  • Track project progress and proactively resolve scheduling, fabrication, and field issues.

  • Coordinate material deliveries and erection sequencing to support field operations.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and contract specifications.

  • Participate in project meetings and provide regular progress updates to stakeholders.

  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in structural steel construction.

  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.

  • Experience managing commercial or industrial steel construction projects.

  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.

  • Knowledge of steel detailing, fabrication workflows, and erection sequencing.

  • Experience with project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with miscellaneous metals and pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) projects.
