Security Guard Position at Nationwide Arena

Nationwide Arena, home to the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets, is a 20,000+ seat venue located in the heart of the booming Arena District in Columbus, Ohio. Welcoming over one million guests through over 100 events annually, Nationwide Arena has hosted a variety of events including the NHL All-Star Game and Entry Draft, NCAA Tournament and National Championship games, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Monster Truck exhibitions, Rodeos, and many more in addition to its hallmark Columbus Blue Jackets games and lively concert schedule. The Security Department is seeking a full-time security guard.

Summary

Assist with the daily operation of the Security Operations Center. Ensure the safety, security and a positive experience for our guests, contractors, and employees of Nationwide Arena. Enforce department and organization policies for Nationwide Arena, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Delaware North Sportservice in a positive and professional manner. Control access in assigned areas and relay necessary information to appropriate parties. Monitor activity in Nationwide Arena and surrounding areas. Address, communicate, and document incidents as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Work in an environment which requires alertness at all times.
  • Monitor all interior and exterior activity of Nationwide Arena using closed circuit surveillance system and access control system.
  • Greet, monitor, and direct the movements of employees, guests, contractors and event staff.
  • Conduct regular surveillance rounds and operational safety checks in and around Nationwide Arena, including the outside perimeter.
  • Enforce department and organization policies for Nationwide Arena, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Delaware North Sportservice in a positive and professional manner.
  • Conduct varying levels of security screening of employees, guests, contractors, and event staff as directed.
  • Track daily activity in Security, document all incidents, and report information to management, as necessary.
  • Receive Lost & Found property, accurately document and assist in its return to rightful owner with a high level of service.
  • Observe fire board and alarm panel. Alert Engineering and Operations regarding alert messages, as necessary.
  • Occasional acceptance and delivery of packages throughout the building.
  • Monitor assigned areas during events to ensure guest safety and compliance with building and event policy.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities or direct reports. The candidate understands that serving as a positive role model for all those within Columbus Blue Jackets Arena Management and the Columbus Blue Jackets as well as with on-site corporate partners and vendors is always expected.

Qualifications

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Minimum of two years of related experience and/or training in safety and security or equivalent law enforcement experience.
  • Familiarity with security screening procedures, including the use of frictionless and x-ray screening technology and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and intermediate computer functions such as fire alarm system, lighting control, and access control applications.
  • Experience with Simplex Fire Alarm Systems, Metasys Controls, and Genetec experience desired.
  • Ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization, including with guests.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, for the purpose of public interaction and report writing.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments and conditions including around loud noises, strobe lights, heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Capacity to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and move shipments of 50 pounds or more.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum of three years of related experience and/or training in safety and security or equivalent law enforcement experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current or previous experience working in a position which requires alertness at all times with exemplary results. Experience with access control systems, CCTV systems and general knowledge of computer applications related to Simplex Fire Alarm, Metasys Controls, and building automation systems is required.
