Job Title: Custom Paint Assistant (Full-Time)

Reports To: Shop Owner / Lead Painter

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Custom Paint Assistant to join our growing team specializing in high-quality custom paint and refinishing for motorcycles, marine vessels (power boats), and related projects. This full-time role focuses on supporting premium finish work through precise preparation, including taping and masking. The ideal candidate is a team player with strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and pride in producing flawless results. No prior painting experience is required—we will provide training—but mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic are essential.

Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)

  • Surface Preparation & Masking (Primary Focus): Accurately tape and masking boats, parts, and components to protect non-painted areas. Ensure clean, sharp lines and professional-grade masking techniques for high-end custom finishes.
  • Sanding, Buffing & Polishing: Perform wet/dry sanding, compounding, polishing, and final detailing to achieve mirror-like finishes on painted surfaces. Class A
  • Material Handling & Fixturing: Assist with moving, fixturing, and positioning boats, motorcycles, and large parts safely in the shop. Help maintain organized workstations and proper storage of materials.
  • Shop Support & Maintenance: Keep the paint booth, tools, and workspace clean and organized. Assist with mixing materials, maintaining equipment, and general shop housekeeping to uphold safety and efficiency standards.
  • Quality Control: Inspect prepared surfaces and masked areas for defects before and after painting. Learn to identify issues in prep work that could affect final finish quality.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with lead painters and other assistants to meet project deadlines. Follow instructions precisely and contribute to a positive, high-performance shop culture.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all shop safety protocols, including proper use of PPE (respirators, suits, etc.), hazardous material handling, and ventilation procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for precise taping/masking work.
  • Positive attitude, dependability, and eagerness to learn custom paint processes.
  • Previous experience in auto body, marine, detailing, or manufacturing preferred but not required.
  • Ability to pass a background check (if applicable).
