Overview
Sign-On/Retention Bonus of $2500*
As an Apheresis Technician at the Blood Donor Clinic, you will work directly with our donors to collect blood, plasma, or platelets for our D-H patients. This role requires formal phlebotomy training, and we provide comprehensive training in the entire donation process, from donor check-in and draws to processing the different blood products for the blood bank. We take pride in connecting with our donors and patients, creating a caring, personalized environment that ensures a great experience. Our strong relationships with our donors and patients, many of whom return regularly, foster greater confidence in our program.
Blood Donor Program team members have shared positive experiences working at D-H. They recognize their essential role as a resource for our community - how the blood they collect will stay at D-H for the benefit of our patients. They add that it's a 'great atmosphere to work in,' with tangible and achievable development opportunities, such as becoming certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
We have full-time, day-shift positions available on this fantastic team. This position will work 4 10-hour shifts as scheduled, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Schedules are done 6 weeks out to allow for future planning of days off.
The Blood Donor Program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is vital to ensuring our patients and community have a blood inventory. We are offering a $2500 sign-on/retention bonus for this position. *The bonus is available for external hires only, and certain conditions apply.
Responsibilities
  • Provides an appropriate donor greeting and directs the donor to read educational materials.
  • Performs donor interview, obtaining accurate and complete medical history information.
  • Determines donor suitability utilizing donor guideline manual and department reference materials.
  • Performs whole blood phlebotomy and automated apheresis donations.
  • Labels sample tubes and collection packs. Completes all records. Performs post-collection handling of products per FDA guidelines.
  • Prepares components from centrifugation, separation, mixing, labeling, and with accurate verification of records and data entry into the computer system.
  • Using Current Good Manufacturing Practices, records the results of all procedures performed.
  • Performs appropriate Quality Control and Preventive Maintenance procedures.
  • Assists other Blood Donor Center staff in the management of reactions and medical emergencies.
  • Maintains equipment and stocks supplies.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of donor information and records, as outlined by the DHMC Privacy/Confidentiality/HIPPA policies.
  • Knows and adheres to safety/infection control techniques.

  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Formal phlebotomy training required.
    • Apheresis experience preferred.
    • 1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
    • 1 year of medical/technical experience desired.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
    • Proven work experience with the public.
    • Strong computer skills desired.
    • Applicant must be honest, dependable, able to multitask, and detail oriented.

    Required Licensure/Certifications
    - BLS required at hire. - Certified Phlebotomist - ASCP within 8 months.
