What is a blockchain security architect?

Blockchain Security Architects are professionals who design, implement, and oversee secure blockchain systems and infrastructures. They are responsible for identifying potential security risks, developing protocols to protect digital assets, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Their work includes securing smart contracts, conducting security audits, and staying updated on emerging threats in the blockchain space. These experts play a critical role in safeguarding decentralized applications and platforms against cyberattacks and vulnerabilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a blockchain security architect?

To thrive as a Blockchain Security Architect, you need expertise in cryptography, distributed ledger technology, network security, and a relevant degree in computer science or cybersecurity. Familiarity with blockchain platforms like Ethereum or Hyperledger, as well as certifications such as Certified Blockchain Security Professional (CBSP), are typically required. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective communication set top professionals apart in this role. These skills ensure the security, reliability, and compliance of blockchain implementations, which are critical for protecting sensitive data and digital assets.

What are some common challenges faced by blockchain security architects in ensuring the security of decentralized applications?

Blockchain Security Architects often encounter challenges related to the rapidly evolving nature of blockchain technologies and the complexity of decentralized applications (dApps). They must continuously assess and adapt to new attack vectors, such as smart contract vulnerabilities and consensus mechanism exploits. JOB DESCRIPTION

A career with us is a journey, not a destination. This could be the next best step in your technical career. Join us.

You are a hands-on architect with a passion for building robust solutions and a keen eye for detail. You thrive on solving complex technical challenges, partnering closely with engineers and stakeholders, and applying emerging technology thoughtfully to deliver measurable outcomes in a highly controlled environment.

As a Lead Architect at JPMorganChase within the Kinexys team in the Commercial & Investment Bank, you will define and drive the technical target state for key products and capabilities. You will work side-by-side with engineering teams to design, build, and evolve secure and resilient solutions that meet business needs today while preparing for future growth. You will leverage enterprise-authorized artificial intelligence capabilities to accelerate architecture discovery and decision-making, applying strong human-in-the-loop validation and careful handling of sensitive data.

Job responsibilities

  • Engage technical teams and business stakeholders to discuss and propose technical approaches to meet current and future needs
  • Define the technical target state of your product and drive achievement of the strategy
  • Leverage enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate architecture discovery and decisioning, with human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data
  • Evaluate recommendations and provide feedback on new technologies, including outcomes-oriented evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs and applicability within existing systems and information
  • Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develop secure and high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Establish reuse-first AI-enabled engineering patterns and governance across software development life cycle and toolchain practices, ensuring traceability, auditability, resiliency, and security controls

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Proficiency across software development life cycle execution, including automation and continuous delivery practices and agile methods such as continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), application resiliency, and security
  • Demonstrated proficiency within a technical discipline (for example, cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile) and ability to evaluate current and emerging technologies to recommend future-state solutions
  • Experience applying enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment in software engineering and architecture workflows, with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity
  • Ability to evaluate and integrate AI-enabled capabilities into cloud-native architectures while meeting resiliency, security, and auditability requirements
  • Hands-on experience with public blockchain ledger platforms including Ethereum (Solidity, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)) and alternative Layer 1/Layer 2 chains such as Solana, covering smart contract development, deployment pipelines, and token standards (ERC-20, ERC-721)
  • Practical knowledge of the broader blockchain ecosystem tooling, including wallets, remote procedure call (RPC) providers, block explorers, indexers, and on-chain/off-chain integration patterns

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with blockchain protocols, smart contract development, and decentralized application integration
  • Experience with cloud migration, multi-cloud strategies, and cloud security best practices
  • Familiarity with modern front-end technologies
  • Exposure to emerging technologies in financial services
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages
