Job description

About Noumena

Noumena is building a next-generation Layer 1 blockchain that weaves decentralized AI inference with robust crypto‑economic mechanisms. Our vision is to create a trust‑minimized platform where AI workloads and financial transactions coexist seamlessly, enabling requesters, providers, and verifiers to interact in a transparent marketplace. As part of this effort, we’re also designing a built‑in decentralized exchange tailored for high‑throughput token swaps and on‑chain liquidity.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Blockchain Engineer to help lead the effort on designing and developing core components of Noumena’s new Layer 1 architecture and its native exchange. You will collaborate with cryptographers, ML engineers, and product teams to ensure the ledger logic, consensus mechanisms, and exchange modules work in harmony—both supporting massive AI inference traffic and providing a smooth user experience for crypto trading.

Key Responsibilities
  • L1 Protocol DesignHelp refine or implement the consensus algorithm (e.g., Proof of Deterministic AI Inference), design data structures, and optimize block production logic for scalability and security, along with sustainable token economics.
  • Exchange Module DevelopmentWorking with our finance specialists, architect and build the code and logic for the on‑chain exchange that handles high‑volume token swaps and leverages Noumena’s specialized consensus for low‑latency finality.
  • Smart ContractsHelp develop the Noumena Smart Contract specification to facilitate verified AI inference tasks and agent‑to‑agent commerce.
  • Performance & SecurityProfile code paths, design robust fallback mechanisms, and conduct rigorous testing to ensure the blockchain and exchange can handle real‑world throughput and adversarial conditions.
  • Collaboration & MentorshipWork closely with fellow engineers—ML, cryptography, backend—to align protocol updates with AI inference requirements and exchange features. Mentor junior team members on best practices in blockchain development.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep exposure to blockchain protocols, distributed systems, or cryptographic applications.
  • Proficiency in Rust, Python, or C++, especially for performance‑critical blockchain modules.
  • Familiarity with exchange mechanics (AMMs, order‑book style DEXs, or hybrid models), DeFi protocols, and cross‑chain bridging solutions.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of consensus algorithms (e.g., PBFT variants, Tendermint, custom PoW/PoS schemes) and layer‑1 design patterns.
  • A product‑oriented mindset—you care about usability, developer experience, and real‑world adoption.
Representative Projects
  • Designing the settlement layer for Noumena’s native exchange, ensuring quick finality and robust liquidity for tokens tied to AI computation services.
  • Integrating cross‑chain bridges so users can seamlessly move assets between Noumena and other major ecosystems.
  • Optimizing block validation logic, ensuring that AI inference proofs and exchange transactions can be finalized in near real time.
  • Building developer toolkits (SDKs, libraries) for external teams to launch dApps or add liquidity on Noumena’s exchange.
Why Join Us
  • Cutting‑Edge Intersection: Converge blockchain innovation with decentralized AI inference—an unexplored frontier offering huge potential for impact.
  • High‑Impact Work: Your designs will define the foundational technology that thousands, if not millions, of users may rely on to trade tokens and run AI workloads.
  • Collaborative Environment: Team up with experts in AI, cryptography, and distributed systems to solve novel, interdisciplinary challenges.
  • Competitive Compensation: We offer a compelling salary range, tokens/equity for long‑term alignment, and full benefits.
We Encourage You to Apply

Noumena welcomes diverse perspectives to drive innovation. If this role intrigues you—whether or not you meet every bullet point—please reach out.
