What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Blockchain Developer, and why are they important?

A Blockchain Developer should possess strong programming skills (such as in Solidity, JavaScript, or Python), a solid understanding of cryptography, and experience with distributed ledger technologies, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with blockchain platforms (like Ethereum or Hyperledger), smart contract development, and relevant certifications (such as Certified Blockchain Developer) are highly beneficial. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective collaboration are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies enable developers to build secure, reliable, and innovative blockchain solutions that meet complex business and technical requirements.

What Does a Blockchain Developer Do?

A blockchain is a digital, public transaction record or digital ledger. People usually associate it with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, but blockchain technology can also record digital transactions with other cryptocurrencies, data, or information. Unlike other forms of finance, cryptocurrencies that rely on the blockchain are decentralized, so people can access Bitcoin and other digital currencies without going to a bank. Computer experts and cryptographers are developing additional ways to use blockchain technology, such as for trade and healthcare records.

What is the difference between Blockchain Developer vs Blockchain Engineer?

What are Blockchain Developers?

Blockchain Developers are professionals who design, build, and maintain decentralized applications and smart contracts using blockchain technology. They work with various blockchain platforms like Ethereum, Hyperledger, or Solana to create secure and transparent systems for industries such as finance, supply chain, and healthcare. Their responsibilities include developing protocols, writing code for smart contracts, and ensuring the security and integrity of blockchain networks.

What are some common challenges Blockchain Developers face when integrating blockchain solutions with existing enterprise systems?

Blockchain Developers often encounter challenges when integrating blockchain solutions with legacy enterprise systems, such as ensuring interoperability between different technologies, managing data consistency, and addressing scalability concerns. Additionally, developers must navigate security protocols and compliance requirements unique to blockchain while collaborating closely with IT, security, and business teams. Adapting smart contracts to fit existing workflows and ensuring seamless user experiences require both technical expertise and effective communication across departments.

Job description

At Offchain, we aren't just building products: we're leading a movement.
As pioneers in blockchain scalability and security, we're at the forefront of transforming how the world interacts with decentralized applications. We're laying the foundation that will define the next generation of digital commerce, governance, and human interaction. This involves tackling real-world challenges that come with scaling blockchain technology, without compromising on its core principles: decentralization, security and transparency.
At the center of this vision is our people. Our team is made up of thinkers and doers that embrace new challenges and seek solutions that push existing boundaries. If you're energized by solving unprecedented problems, and believe in the role that decentralized systems will play in creating a more equitable digital future, then we want to hear from you.
Why Offchain?
Offchain is setting the pace for the entire Ethereum ecosystem. We built the Arbitrum stack that powers Arbitrum One, the most widely adopted Ethereum scaling solution that exists today.
Arbitrum's ecosystem is undergoing tremendous growth with hundreds of projects and dApps on Arbitrum One today. Over 100 different teams have used Offchain technology to build their own Arbitrum chains. Major players in the space, Robinhood, BlackRock, Ethena Labs, Securitize, Aave, and Apechain are all using the Arbitrum stack.
Arbitrum's thriving ecosystem wouldn't exist without our advanced technology stack. Arbitrum, Prysm, ZeroDev. These aren't just product names. These are tools that are actively reshaping what's possible on Ethereum and advancing its core infrastructure.
To top it all off? We're backed by $124 million in funding. We've demonstrated consistent execution with billions in secured value, thousands of supported projects, and infrastructure processing millions of transactions seamlessly.
The Role
  • We are seeking a highly motivated and capable Data Center Engineer to join our growing infrastructure team. In this hands-on role, you will design, build, deploy, and maintain high-performance server hardware and networking systems in our Nashville datacenter. This position is based in our Nashville datacenter and requires direct physical work with servers, networking equipment and other physical devices.

What you'll do:
  • Work inside of our Nashville datacenter to deploy, manage and configure hardware and networking equipment
  • Assist with the selection and procurement of IT hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues
  • Monitor datacenter infrastructure health, perform preventive maintenance, and contribute to capacity planning for hardware expansion.
  • Work directly with the SRE team on technical issues such as debugging non-responsive systems
  • Flag security concerns in hardware configurations, networking setups, firmware vulnerabilities, and physical access controls
  • Occasionally provide technical support to employees across all departments and locations

What you'll need:
  • Hands-on experience in a datacenter or similar environment, managing rack-level equipment
  • Strong understanding of server hardware architecture, components and low-level troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of networking principles and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
  • Experience debugging issues in virtualization environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented, engineering-first mindset.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues

Perks:
  • Remote-first global workforce + NY office
  • Annual company offsite + team onsites
  • Professional reimbursement program (facilitates industry conference attendance, certifications, and more)
  • Medical, dental & vision coverage (US + some other countries)
  • 401k retirement plan + company match (US only)
  • Wellness stipend
  • Home office set up / ergonomic equipment program

This role cannot be performed in California, or Colorado.
