Job Summary

National Pipe & Plastics, one of the largest PVC pipe producers in North America, is currently seeking a Blending Lead. The Blending Lead will lead a team of blending technicians. This is a hands-on role and you will be responsible for the day-to-day duties and tasks of the blending department. The blending lead will be responsible for setting up and operating all equipment and select materials required in the compounding operation to provide consistent material to extruders and maintain blend inventory.


Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure blending technicians are following standards and escalating when necessary to supervisor/manager
  • Overseeing and leading a group of blending technicians
  • Use safe working practice for operations and wear proper protective equipment
  • Set up the mixer system to produce compound needed for production
  • Check weigh scales periodically for zero reading. Know how to adjust scales to zero.  Also, must know how to zero scales with empty bucket or box on scales
  • Recognize all ingredients visually. Must be able to recognize per bag what each ingredient is 
  • Weigh each ingredient to the required formulation.  Must be able to understand formulation they are using. Must put in ingredients in proper order to maintain proper batch according to accumulating weights
  • Handle material for weighing and supply blender with bucket weighed materials. Be able to operate forklift in tight areas to supply materials to weigh station
  • Select and place for use materials for compound to be mixed 
  • Connect mixer to proper conveying system to generate proper input and pump to correct silo
  • Accurately weigh each material and add to compounder in the proper order
  • Alert foreman when weighing error is discovered
  • Stock raw materials for mixing operation per operating policy
  • Make routine inspections of mixer system daily. Write work orders for repair of items found not to be operating correctly
  • Maintain blend levels in silos as instructed
  • Must be able to climb silo and take measurements. Must be able to climb and work on top of railcars
  • Keep all hose caps installed on all railcars and hoses to keep dirt and rocks from contaminating resin
  • Receive raw materials as directed by operating policy
  • Complete all required paperwork as required
  • Assist maintenance personnel in repairing blending equipment upon request
  • Keep work area neat and clean at all times

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
