Responsibilities
  • Equipment validation โ€” Conduct capability studies (CP/CPK, GR&R), support equipment acceptance activities, oversee manufacturing validation events, and verify weld joints meet engineering specifications.
  • Dimensional issue analysis โ€” Investigate dimensional and joint-quality concerns using CMM data, 3D scans, and quality system inputs to determine root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Process standardization โ€” Develop and maintain work instructions, control plans, standardized work, and lessons-learned documentation across body shop manufacturing processes.
  • Vendor collaboration โ€” Partner with tooling and equipment suppliers, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and product engineering teams throughout equipment validation, installation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lean & Six Sigma application โ€” Improve OEE, reduce cycle times, optimize manufacturing performance, and resolve recurring quality concerns using structured continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Digital record management โ€” Maintain accurate documentation for tooling assets, weld schedules, process maps, risk assessments, and manufacturing records within PLM and MES platforms.
  • Production support โ€” Provide day-to-day support for robot programming, equipment troubleshooting, process optimization, and preventive maintenance planning to ensure stable production operations.
  • Manufacturing integration โ€” Support implementation of engineering changes, manufacturing process updates, and equipment modifications while minimizing disruption to ongoing production.
  • Training support โ€” Train production and maintenance personnel on new equipment, updated manufacturing procedures, process improvements, and revised quality requirements.
  • Workflow optimization โ€” Evaluate workflow, floor space utilization, equipment layout, and material flow to identify opportunities for improved manufacturing efficiency, safety, and productivity.
Requirements

Minimum five years of experience in BIW manufacturing or automotive body structure work, ideally in high-volume production environments.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (equivalent hands-on experience may be considered).

Practical background in welding operations, robotic automation, and BIW-specific fixture/tooling design.

Working knowledge of GD&T, datum schemes, and tolerance stack-up analysis.

Understanding of weld parameter adjustments, joint stack-up variability, and fixture repeatability.

Strong analytical ability to interpret CMM reports, SPC data, and capability indices.

Proficiency with industry-standard CAD and PLM software.

Effective cross-functional collaboration skills.

Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of robot programming (Fanuc) and PLC logic.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing process implementation, production ramp-up, or continuous improvement initiatives within an OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
