We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Dimensional Engineer to join our Stamping organization. This role will be responsible for leading dimensional control activities, overseeing current vehicle quality issues, managing SPC (Statistical Process Control) programs, and ensuring robust follow-up of dimensional concerns. The engineer will also be accountable for managing vendor collaboration on checking fixtures, from design through final delivery. A solid understanding of BIW (Body-in-White) assembly is essential to ensure that stamping dimensional issues are properly evaluated in the context of full vehicle build.

You Will:

  • Lead dimensional analysis and issue resolution for current vehicle programs, driving corrective actions and continuous improvements.
  • Oversee and maintain SPC monitoring systems, ensuring accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Evaluate whether dimensional issues on stamped panels will propagate into BIW assembly problems.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Quality, Engineering, BIW, and Production) to resolve dimensional concerns impacting stamping panels and assemblies.
  • Provide vendor oversight for checking fixtures, including:
    • Reviewing and approving designs.
    • Monitoring build progress and adherence to specifications.
    • Leading buy-off, tryout, and final acceptance.
  • Ensure deep understanding of checking fixtures, including clamp and net positioning, and their limitations in reflecting real-world car position and vehicle assembly conditions.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for dimensional non-conformities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians in the stamping team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred 
  • 5+ years of experience in dimensional engineering, preferably within stamping or automotive OEM operations.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, SPC, and metrology tools (CMM, laser scanning, checking fixtures).
  • Proven experience managing supplier deliverables for tooling and checking fixtures.
  • Solid understanding of BIW assembly and its interaction with stamping dimensional performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across internal teams and external vendors.

Preferred

  • Experience in automotive stamping operations.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 standards.
  • Familiarity with CAD systems and dimensional analysis software (e.g., CATIA, PolyWorks, CM4D).
