Assistant/Associate Professor, Plant Biotechnology (Non-tenured)

Job Summary

This position must have sound/extensive knowledge and research experience in plant biotechnology that includes gene cloning, gene editing, transfection, tissue culture, and hardening.

  • Troubleshoot plant tissue culture and greenhouse-related issues
  • Support departmental core course instruction for graduate students in plant biotechnology, advanced molecular biology, tissue culture, and cell biology, specific to plant sciences
  • Provide instruction to undergraduate students as needed
  • Establish a productive and vibrant student-based research program in the area of plant biotechnology
  • Contribute to scholarly research activities and provide mentorship to both graduate and undergraduate students in research activities
  • Support various departmental services, such as active contributions to student advisement and the promotion of the graduate program to undergraduate students and external partners
  • Be an active participant in departmental and university-wide committees
  • Provide instruction in biology/plant biotechnology courses and related advanced-level electives with a strong commitment to curriculum transformation and excellence in teaching
  • Establish a productive, student-centered graduate and undergraduate research program in the area of plant science and biotechnology with an emphasis on research tools development
  • Incorporate learning activities into the research program
  • Actively write scientific research grants to secure funding
  • Participate in scholarly activities, advisement, and mentorship of students, with active service on committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications Required:
  • Ph.D. in biotechnology or related field required
  • Postdoctoral fellowship experience in biotechnology is required
  • Strong research profile in plant science, with a focus on biotechnology and related fields required
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Excellence in plant science/biotechnology research, as shown by quality publications and articles in the top journals required
Preferred:
  • Postdoctoral fellowship experience in plant biotechnology is preferred
  • Experience in teaching introductory as well as advanced biotechnology courses in the field is preferred
  • Experience working with underrepresented minorities in STEM is preferred but not required
  • Experience in obtaining funded grants is preferred
  • Evidence of experience spearheading or participating in experiential learning models is a plus
  • Evidence of strong commitment to excellence in teaching, technology application in the classroom, and capability of establishing collaborative research programs involving undergraduate students is preferred but not required
