Job Summary:

Nova Biomedical is seeking a Software Engineer Manager to lead a local software development team supporting new product development for Novas osmometer platforms. This role will provide on-site leadership in Norwood for the completion of the OsmoPRO Next project and the development of the OsmoPrime and OsmoTECH XT Multi instruments. The Software Engineer Manager will also help bring biotechnology software development capabilities in-house and support the execution of Novas software strategy across additional product platforms.

The ideal candidate is a strong software developer and early-career manager with experience leading medical device software through the complete product lifecycle, from development and commercial release through ongoing field support. This position is expected to manage approximately four employees and may oversee both Software Engineering and Software Quality Assurance functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a local team of software engineers supporting osmometer new product development.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for the completion of the OsmoPRO Next project and the development of the OsmoPrime and OsmoTECH XT Multi instruments.
  • Manage software development activities throughout the complete medical device product lifecycle, including design, development, verification, validation, commercial release, and post-market support.
  • Ensure software development activities comply with ISO 13485 requirements and applicable medical device quality system procedures.
  • Guide the design, development, testing, integration, and maintenance of embedded and application software.
  • Provide technical direction across embedded Linux, C#/.NET, SQL, C++, and Qt-based software environments.
  • Partner with Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Quality Assurance, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and project leadership to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant products.
  • Establish clear project priorities, resource plans, development schedules, and team objectives.
  • Monitor project execution, identify technical and scheduling risks, and drive timely resolution of issues.
  • Lead software design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting activities, and root-cause investigations.
  • Ensure software requirements, architecture, design documentation, test records, and traceability are complete and maintained throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support the continued development of an in-house biotechnology software platform and the integration of software capabilities associated with planned business growth and acquisition activity.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and evaluate software engineering team members while promoting accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Support the management and coordination of Software Engineering and Software Quality Assurance resources.
  • Promote consistent development practices, continuous improvement, and effective knowledge sharing across the software organization.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience developing software for regulated medical devices in an ISO 13485 environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting software through the complete medical device product lifecycle, including commercial release and field support.
  • Software development experience with embedded Linux, C#/.NET, SQL, C++, and Qt.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design, implementation, integration, testing, and maintenance.
  • Experience leading or managing software engineers required.
  • Experience managing or collaborating closely with Software Quality Assurance preferred.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical leadership with team management, project planning, and employee development.
  • Knowledge of medical device software development processes, design controls, risk management, requirements traceability, verification, and validation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and nontechnical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive execution within a regulated product development environment.

Targeted Salary Range: $160k-$185k
