What is biotech process development?

Biotech process development refers to the design, optimization, and scale-up of manufacturing processes used to produce biological products, such as pharmaceuticals, enzymes, or vaccines. Professionals in this field work to turn laboratory procedures into efficient, large-scale industrial processes that meet regulatory and quality standards. This often involves selecting suitable equipment, optimizing conditions, ensuring reproducibility, and troubleshooting production issues. The ultimate goal is to produce high-quality products safely, consistently, and cost-effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in biotech process development, and why are they important?

To excel in Biotech Process Development, you need a strong background in bioprocess engineering, molecular biology, and chemistry, typically supported by a degree in biotechnology or related fields. Familiarity with tools such as bioreactors, chromatography systems, and data analysis software, along with certifications in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for optimizing processes, ensuring product quality, and driving innovation in the biotech industry.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in biotech process development, and how are they typically addressed?

Professionals in Biotech Process Development often encounter challenges related to scaling up processes from the laboratory to commercial production, ensuring product consistency, and meeting strict regulatory standards. Addressing these challenges typically involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams such as quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing. Continuous process optimization, thorough documentation, and robust validation protocols are essential strategies to overcome these hurdles and ensure successful product development and commercialization.

  • Defining and proposing growth opportunities within prospective and existing clients.
  • Identifying and strategically targeting key stakeholders and decision-makers across functions and bringing in resources to implement.
  • Managing a target sales goal and forecasting sales accurately - appropriately building and actively managing a sales pipeline with a clear path to close for all opportunities.
  • Ensuring that prospective and current life sciences clients recognize the strategic value of RxVantage and approach the sales process and relationship as a strategic partnership.
  • Partnering with the Life Sciences Customer Success and other internal teams and functions to identify, manage, and execute growth opportunities within existing clients and ensure that the end-to-end client experience is outstanding.
  • Uncovering and effectively communicating key client and marketplace information to support RxVantage's go-to-market strategy.

The ideal candidate:
  • 7+ years of Business Development experience including selling Enterprise, SaaS, Technology, and/or Data solutions into life sciences companies.
  • Has consistently exceeded sales targets.
  • Incredibly high ethical standards and an understanding of the importance of ethics and compliance in the life sciences industry.
  • Experience developing and executing complex business strategies for life sciences clients.
  • Brings established and strong relationships with US commercial leaders across the industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop connections with prospects and clients quickly and easily, and to develop and maintain deeper business relationships based on trust.
  • Strong business strategy and analytical skills (expert level interpreting relevant metrics).
  • Exceptional business savvy with a solid ability to analyze client needs, objectives, and opportunities.
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal), including exceptional presentation skills and effective use of selling tools (e.g., PowerPoint slides, demos, etc.).
  • Experience using Salesforce.com (or other CRM), Slack (or Teams), LinkedIn Navigator, and other prospecting/network tools and resources.
  • A team player who works well with internal cross-functional teams and colleagues and utilizes resources appropriately.
  • A self-starter and problem solver who goes beyond identification of problems to also suggest solutions.

Benefits:
