The impact you will make:

Agios is seeking a dynamic Sr. Manager, Medical Affairs Operations, to join our growing Global Medical Affairs team. This position is remote or hybrid. The successful candidate will bring strong project management and operational expertise to support a broad range of team initiatives.

We are looking for a passionate and impact-focused person who is interested in joining an innovative and collaborative group focused on partnering with patients to bring about meaningful change. Our team is committed to excellence and ensuring that the patient voice is captured throughout the drug development process and building trust with the patient communities we serve.

This role will report to the Director of Medical Operations and primarily provide operational and project management support to the Patient Advocacy function within Medical Affairs. In this capacity, the individual will play a key role in advancing Agios' presence in hemolytic anemias, including thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and pyruvate kinase deficiency.

What you will do:

  • Provide operational and project management support to the US patient advocacy team, ensuring smooth day-to-day coordination across priorities, stakeholders, and deliverables, and flex to support various other functions within Medical Affairs as needs arise
  • Lead planning and execution for multiple patient advocacy activities, including patient advisory boards, patient advocacy publications, podcasts, and outreach events; this may include coordination with Agios Compliance as well as vendor management.
  • Manage the execution of Agios' patient advocacy conference plans for PK deficiency, thalassemia, and sickle cell disease; participate in cross-functional planning meetings; obtain compliance approval for related materials; and attend virtual and in-person conferences, when needed.
  • Coordinate with corporate communications to support internal and external communications around disease awareness days/months, social media activities, and other patient-oriented events.
  • Develop and maintain a master calendar of critical patient advocacy conferences, identifying participation opportunities and liaising with internal team members to secure appropriate cross-functional representation.
  • Support patient speakers at internal events conducted to help colleagues understand the patient journey and impact of the diseases we research.
  • Support relationship management requirements by ensuring timely communication on projects and sponsorships with external stakeholders, including patient organizations, advocacy groups, and vendors.
  • Oversee internal processes that enable efficient and compliant conduct of patient advocacy and engagement activities; manage, monitor, and track documentation stored on the patient advocacy team's SharePoint site to ensure all compliance requirements are met.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ways of working, streamline workflows, and drive efficiencies across patient advocacy and medical operations.
  • Use Agios' approved AI tools appropriately to support planning, organization, document development, and process efficiency, in line with company policy and compliance requirements.
  • Provide operational support to the field team where needed, helping to coordinate shared activities and ensure alignment across patient advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Patient Advocacy to drive agenda topics for team meetings, document action items, follow through on outcomes, and support budget and vendor management.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience, including 3+ years in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Established project management and business operations skills, with a strong track record of supporting multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and with external partners.
  • Flexibility in work hours to effectively support peak periods and time-sensitive priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency and strengthen ways of working.
  • Comfortable using approved AI tools to support organization, drafting, planning and operational efficiency, in line with company policy and compliance requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience managing documentation, systems and workflows, ideally including SharePoint, databases or portals.
  • Familiarity with Veeva and VisionTracker is a plus.
  • Positive, adaptable and empathetic working style, with the ability to act with urgency in a complex environment.
  • Experience supporting patient advocacy, patient engagement or similar stakeholder-facing work is desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • A genuine interest in patient advocacy and the ability to bring energy, judgement and discretion to the role.

Travel Requirements and Work Location:

Both virtual or in-person meetings are facilitated as needed and appropriate. Travel requirements will be an average of 25%.

Work Location:

Location Agnostic: Work location for this role is based on employee's individual preference. This role has the ability to be either remote in the US or hybrid in our Cambridge Headquarters. Hybrid schedules vary but are generally less than 3 days per week onsite and hybrid employees are expected to live within commutable distance to our Cambridge Headquarters. Remote employees work entirely from home except for attending Company sponsored events/ meetings. For employees who choose to work remotely, travel may be required for certain company events commensurate to the above job description..
