Job description

Amentum is a leading provider of engineering, scientific, and program management support services to some of the top agencies in the U.S. government, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the intelligence community. Amentum also provides engineering, scientific, and program management support to Research & Development (R&D) projects for commercial sector clients.

Amentum Health & Life Sciences (HLS) is seeking a portfolio lead to support our expansion within the commercial market, focused on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. This role will assist in networking in these areas, identifying opportunities, and helping structure, stand up, and execute R&D support projects. This role may also provide insight and support on HLS R&D to government clients at agencies such as ARPA-H, DARPA (Biological Technologies Office - BTO), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), or the Department of War (DoW), as well as the public health client space.

We are interested in personnel with research, technical management, and/or business development experience supporting HLS technology development projects.The portfolio lead will be part of a multidisciplinary, agile team operating in a fast-paced environment, focused on expanding Amentum's commercial market R&D support portfolio. This position is for 50% LOE and can support remote work, with the ability to travel as needed for in-person meetings as driven by the client/s.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities and potential customers in the HLS commercial market for Amentum's R&D technical and management support services
  • Leverage professional connections and experience to expand Amentum's HLS network in general, with a specific focus on commercial sector biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients
  • Help to define and structure Amentum HLS R&D support services and teams; stand up teams for project execution
  • Help identify top-quality personnel for Amentum's HLS support teams, leveraging personal networks as well as coordinating with Amentum talent acquisition / recruiting and human resources
  • Conduct screening and onboarding / orientation of potential new HLS personnel
  • Support the generation of documentation and briefings, both Amentum internal and external client-facing, as needed
  • Manage and prioritize support team activities to ensure efficient operations and that all products are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Support contract management and acquisition activities for both government and commercial client efforts
  • Provide general HLS subject matter expertise across the health technology portfolio of projects as needed and appropriate

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a field related to Health & Life Sciences
  • At least 10 years of relevant technical and/or management experience
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust and/or Secret security clearance. Please note US citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and connections within the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical sectors
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing R&D programs
  • The demonstrated professionalism, maturity, sound judgement, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for daily interactions with executive-level audiences in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting as circumstances dictate
  • Strong writing skills; highly organized with excellent attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MD or PhD in an area relevant to HLS
  • Active Secret security clearance, with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance. Please note US citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Project management experience - has led a project with numerous interdisciplinary personnel
  • Preferred candidate has a broad interpersonal network in the health technology space
  • Experience in business development and proposal development

Compensation Details:

$81/hour - $91/hour
